    Funky motherboard/cpu problem...

Okay, so I have this friend who gives me things of his that seemingly go bad or he's ruined, now and then, and I always fix them.

This time it is a Asus P5N32-SLI SE DELUXE. He just decided to upgrade to something better since he's not technically inclined. But to me who's running a P4-2GHz and a P4PE, it's an in to finally upgrading.

Anyway, his story is that it just stopped working one day. I looked the board over and it looks totally cherry. It's loaded with polymers and Rubycons/UCC's! The only thing he said he found was that the CPU looked like it had a strange mark between a couple of the... whatever they are, I guess the pins are on the socket on these boards, so the pin-holes? lol! Anyway, he said he felt it may have been a scorch mark from two pins arcing. He didn't have another CPU to test it so that's as far as I can get.

Now, I would hate to try another CPU in this thing only to have it arc and ruin said CPU. Any idea what I should do?

Actually, the only funky looking thing about the board is that whatever sort of mechanism held the CPU fan assembly, obviously attached to the underside of the board as well and there are little pieces of black foam and a gummy substance remaining in the shape of said mechanism where it pressed against the underside.

Also, this may be the system he had water-cooled and was overclocked. I think he was getting a whole 'nother Gigahert or more out of it at times. And no, I do not think he got any water on it and damaged it.

if its overclocked, that always causes problems. what kind of water cooling system did he have? the whole system could have cooked while the cpu wasn't. was this a core 2 duo or pentium D?

Core 2 Duo afaik. I don't know which watercooling setup it was, but his system ran very nice. It was crazy watching him play WoW with everything on full at some crazy-insane rez on his widescreen TV. It made me die inside. "PC's can really reach this sort of powah?!" hehe He just put a new board and cpu in it. I think he misplaced the old cpu. argh!

I was also told by another source that they feel he may have fried one of the voltage regulators, so I'm trying to see if I can find these particular units. They are labled 85T03GH and the manufacturer is AP? I can't figure out where the manufacturers homepage is or what AP stands for. *sigh*

I still can't figure out who manufactured these.
