    Help a noob! Wson8 Pogo/Needle Adapters to read/Write

    Hi all,

I had recently tried to reflash the bios on a dell latittude that has a Wson8 Chip however to no avail.

My question is, Has anyone had much success using the Pogo/Needle adapters to read and write bios without removing the chip from the main board?

I seem to struggling with the solder process wofh my reflow station and currently have 4 machines waiting for a bios mod/reflash.

For context I have just ordered a EZP2019 SPI flash so this is what I would be using alongside the Pogo Adapter.

Apologies if this is the wrong subcategory. I'm a new member to badcaps however have spent a long time reading through the website.

    Thanks in advance!

if the board has a programming header like some MSI boards then it can work,
but usually you have to lift the chip because of other parts connected to it that mess with the programming.

Thankyou for your response. Iv got a donor motherboard so I might have to try and test my solder skills with my reflow station 🤣 Practice makes perfect!

I do use pogos for wson8 in some cases. But never to read out or write the whole chip. I just read out a certain small section, automatically modify it and write back, so it takes just seconds. And even in that case, it's kinda unstable.
So for most cases, soldering is the way to go. It is not hard. Correct temperature and never apply any force on tweezers. Atleast that's what beginners tend to do wrong. It should come off easy.

          Thankyou for your reply!

I had previously tried to desolder a chip and replace it with a preprogrammed one however to no avail. It was a 11th Gen Dell Latittude, However up-on installing the new chip the machine wouldn't boot. I do have 3 more laptops too attempt however moving forward I'm going to try and modify the current bin file as opposed to replacing the whole chip. Could I ask, When replacing the bios chip with a pre-programmed one, Should I have replaced the EC chip? I'm truing to workout where I went wrong. I did resolve the original chip back however the laptop still wouldn't boot 😑

Thankyou for taking the time to reply! Your knowledge is highly appreciated.

            Hi.

I'm posting this here in part as a memo to self as well as to describe the procedure I used in case anyone else found it useful. I found a lot of the necessary information to make this work on this forum and I figured I would give something back. If this is not the appropriate place to post this, I don't mind it being deleted but I hope it can help other people.

bug of the month: write caching setting for the hard drive in device manager

i recently bought a new wd re4 2tb with 2014 datecodes. when i got around to testing it tho in victoria hd tester, the write speed was very slow at 14 mb/s with a 256 sector transfer size. when i increased the transfer size to 1024 sectors, the write speed increased slightly to 44 mb/s. read speeds and sector verify speeds were fine and at normal speeds.

so i just ass-u-med the drive's poor performance was due to it being an advanced format drive and i was using it on winxp. when i tried cloning my system disk to this wd re4 2tb drive and writing to it in linux, the write speed...

            Hello,

Here I have the mentioned tablet with motherboard s6000-mb-h401. The tablet won't turn on, no display, charging normally. I manage to connect to UART port and got this output when I try to start it:

            Code:
            [PWRAP] pwrap_init_preloader
            [PWRAP] pwrap_init

novice user attempting first BIOS write on ASUS laptop
            by alphabetty
            Hello first post!

Ok so after an (ASUSTek) optional Windows update, my old ASUS E403NA laptop rebooted and froze in the BIOS menu screen and was unresponsive so after about 30 mins I powered off and back on again. Now i just get a power LED and a black screen, I have tried all the basic suggestions and all the suggestions on the ASUS site, spoke to ASUS support who said I will need to pay for an RMA.

The laptop is worth €50 so I won't be doing the RMA at god knows what price.

So I have seen some videos where people have reprogrammed the BIOS...

WSON8 NEW Bios Chips READ, ERROR, ETC.
            by feherhollo
            Hi,
I asking for help on some new WSON8 256MB chips. Please share your experience. I faced error on some new chips on read, erase, write with different programmers. These new chips are not exist in any programmers database. (GD25B256D, XM25RH256, W25Q256JV so on.)
            I'm using RT809F V.5.0, EZP2023 Pro, CH341A Green

For the exact experience with GD25B256DYIG is RT809F erase the chip under 33sec. This kind of 256MB chip normal erase time is 70-120sec so I think not all the partitions are erased. If I do blank check or reread the buffer says FFFFFF but when I write the correct...
