Ammo needed for rmr (mosfets)

Hi everyone. I recently had some really bad luck with an asus p5n32-e sli. The mosfet above an optional fan pin exploded, closer inspection of the board revealed a somewhat tarnished color on the printed part listed as sata(near the io shield). As I have no clue what happened, what hypothetically would cause this? And is it all on the user end in terms of errors?

psu is a thermaltake toughpower 850 watt
And any place where metal on the riser pin areas could short were covered by mylar.

Any info will be very much appreciated, as I just spent a good deal of change on this new system, and I'm hoping the problem is only the mobo.

This is the best i can do, cause the boards in the mail. opt fan 4 pin is 1st white pin to the left of satas in figure 9. And the browned part is labeled esata12 straight above the top most fin and 1st right next to the cap.

Forgot to mention, the board gets power, but prior to it being dead, I was was getting ide detection errors, random restarts, memory detection errors until finally it would continually restart, lockup on windows screen and then I didn't even get a post screen or beep.

Can bad capacitors cause a mosfet to blow up though?

short circuit would destroy a Mosfet
if its nothing you have done
and its been playing up since you got it them most likely a dud MB
If you have RMA'd it then hopefully it it will be replaced under warrenty

Someone posted about they were surprised at the amount of MB being sent back to Newegg with faults.

without really knowing which parts died or knowing the MB its hard to guess what happend
pictures of the actual board may have been of help,but its in the mail now.
since you say its less then a month old,
MB fault and something possibly with a power rail in the area of the esata.
maybe some low resistance intermittent pcb track fault

Thats only guess work on my part and there are others that might have a better idea
A faulty cap, possibly but doubt it

like I said only guessing and this is provided it isn't something you have inadvertently done. (it happens to the best of us at times)

Hope they give you a new one thought...
it doesn't look like a cheap MB
which is a bit of a worry if it was supplied faulty

Anyone of our regular system builders, noticed an increase of new MB being Faulty from box?

For that matter the quality of MB's builds getting worse?

I have.
Everyone at school knows me as the computer god so they always go to me. Within the last few months a few builders are telling me that they have had dead boards right out of the packaging. The caps are good and their tester cards usually show failures ranging from voltage all the way to a dead north bridge.
I personally question my K7N2 Delta2 which shows no visual faults or problems. and is stocked with good caps.

Thank you guys, you've all been very helpful. Just gathering the info in case newegg contacts me. And The board was pricey, hence my reservations about rmr (too much fine print when returning electronics). But newegg has a good rep, so I'll cross my fingers. I find it kind of strange that the board died 5 days before I'd have to contact asus for service.
