Need advice on a couple Netgear switches

I'm looking to buy a 16 port Netgear Gigabit switch. The two models I've picked out are the JGS516 and the GS516T. The GS516T costs about $70 more, but I can't figure out what the differences in specs are. Does anyone have experience with either of these?

Warranty, packet latency, power consumption, 2000 Mbps full duplex, are the differences I see right off the bat.

I'd spend the extra money get the faster one with longer warranty.

I have Zyxel GS-1008 and its great with intel 1000mt cards. Maybe GS-1016 is good also. Works with fan disconnected.

both Zyxel and Netgear have crapcaps

Re: Need advice on a couple Netgear switches

One thing I didn't think about- My Router/DHCP server/Firewall/VPN system has a 10/100 nic in it. If I upgrade to Gigabit on just my media server and desktop systems, will I have problems because the DHCP server is on 10/100? There is no need for me to put a GB card on the DHCP system because the cable modem is only 10/100 anyway.

But I figure that once the DHCP server gives each system an IP address, all other traffic is just between the other machines and will not be bottlenecked, correct?

I really need to learn more about networking... I don't even know what Layer 2, Layer 3, VLAN, and a bunch of other stuff means. I only know how to make cables and set up most basic servers and such. Some of the crazy stuff they have in big enterprise networks would make my head explode

You can put a faster switch on the LAN and it will support slower devices just fine, unless it is a Pizzashit or other such cheap make.

I have a Netgear 1gb 16-port switch on my LAN, and none of the workstations have anything faster than 100mb. No worries. I bought the Netgear instead of Linksys, because it doesn't have cheap little fans inside.

I suppose it has cheap little caps instead.

I suppose recapping the switch will be in order soon enough.

Yep, I bought the Netgear GS516T. You can see inside it on my other thread, I took it apart to look at it before I even plugged it in

I notice a performance increase even at 100MB speed. Only my NAS has gigabit right now, my main system will be upgraded tomorrow, as will my HTPC.

What other gear are you getting? I am thinking about upgrading my LAN, but the Netgear 1GB NIC is getting bad reviews.

My new Gigabyte Socket AM2 motherboard has onboard gigabit LAN, and my other systems will be getting Intel Pro/1000 GT cards.

I only bought two of the cards to start, one for my NAS and one for my HTPC. So far so good on the NAS, and I hope to install the card in the HTPC yet tonight so I can see just how fast it will be.

This is a fancy milk frother, apparently almost identical to the Dualit DMF2, but sold at a big mark up as bring particularly suitable for making frothy hot chocolat. It's basically a small jug with a kettle type resistive element in the base, and in the centre of that a small motor holding a magnet which locks on to a magnet in the base of a stirrer inside the jug which spins and froths up whatever liquid is inside.

I've got one and it's not working. I've checked all the obvious things. The heater coil has continuity, as do the two thermal fuses and the motor windings. The temperature...

Plasma Samsung PS-50C96HD Main board BN94-01223C switches off supply after few seconds
                  by alltvrepairs
                  Hi,
I have this almost brand new Plasma was well stored. I would like to repair it for a friend of mine.

I have noticed that it works for few seconds then switches Off the Power_ On signal. Have disconnected boards and left maion board and power supply and still the same. The power supply with PS_ON and VA signals On stays on so it is not a problem in the power supply.
Any one met this problem in the past?...

                  Need T-Con Advice (Vizio P602ui-B3)
                  by Jidis
                  Hi all,

I made a big-ass mess here of my father's beloved P602, and I'm trying to figure out if I should order a batch of overpriced ribbons or if I'd just be throwing more good money at the bad.

He woke up recently to a bunch of white bars going down the right side of the screen. From what I'd seen in these places, I figured the T-con board has gone out or has a bad connection. I took the back off and gently poked at the socketed ribbons and sure enough, got the image back. It was mainly the far left ribbon, and it would snap back to stripes if I let off the pressure....

i searched online and found such programmers as the SVOD4, Vertyanov Successor , and the RT809h type but didn’t see this particular BGA EC chips listed? So hoping for some advice here , cheers.
