I have installed linux and windows.

For work, internet, films... Linux (knoppix) is perfect. Like that it does not slow down over time as a Win do. If I'm have a litlle taste to play something, have here also Win7.

And two years later are still a lot of folks running Windows 7 or 8.1 here?

Or have folks moved on to Windows 10 or some other Linux Flavor?

I made an official move to Linux on my main computer about 3 years ago. Have never been happier.
Don't buy those $10 PSU "specials". They fail, and they have taken whole computers with them.

My computer doubles as a space heater.

RIP Advantech UNO-3072LA (2008-2021) - Decommissioned and taken out of service permanently due to lack of software support for it. Not very likely to ever be recommissioned again.
Asus Q550LF (Old main laptop, 2014-2022) - Decommissioned and stripped due to a myriad of problems, the main battery bloating being the final nail in the coffin.

Re: Who Uses What OS in her/his Box?

Windows 7/Linux Mint Cinnamon 18 dual boot on both my main PCs now. Not touching Windows 10 with a ten foot pole.

I used to have 10 on my "test" PC to monitor 10 and see if it ever became usable. After watching it go in exactly the opposite direction, I gave up on it... I wiped 10 to reuse the SSD for something else. It's evident that MS is not interested in pleasing or accommodating former customers like me; rather than reversing course, they've repeatedly doubled down on everything that is wrong with 10 and the way MS has promoted it.

That's when I installed Linux on both of the other PCs too. I can migrate at my leisure now, as it will be a few years before 7 runs out of security updates.

                        Hello,

this is a very strange Problem:

Notebook hang instantly on Boot. BIOS is accesable.
Windows: instant after showing "loading circle", even Windows Boot Stick hang instant (even without installed SSD/NVME )
Linux: instantly (if Linux Boot in leagacy Mode with log messages: Machine Check exception after 0.25 sec)

                        i have tried:
                        - only one RAM Stick, another working RAM, both RAM channel
                        - BIOS Flash to newest Version F.50, BIOS Reset
                        - Memtest86 hang instant at Test 2
                        - HP UEFI Diagnostic wont find...

Requests to Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux Ubuntu x86_64
                        by tsavpyn
                        Dear all,
I forgot my BIOS password of my Surface Pro 3, I searched for solutions for a long time and knew that by using FPT to dump my bios to bin file and using decryptor, I can get my BIOS password.
Now I have a problem that I am unable to dump my BIOS into bin file.

My Surface Pro 3 currently runs on Ubuntu 22.04, with Secure Boot enabled and Boot From SSD Only.

I searched for FPT but there is no Linux version and none of them work.
I hereby request a copy of Intel Flash Programming Tool for Linux x64.
I would really appreciate it if anyone...

SPD reading/writing under Linux and/or Windows
                        by keepread
                        Hi all,
Where can I find the mysterious 'eeprom' kernel module that some use under Linux to read/write SPD?
I installed 'i2c-tools' and got 'decode-dimms' tool under Debian but not under Fedora, but both of them are missing the 'eeprom' module.
Also tried the SPD.exe tool from EVGA, which correctly lists all of the DIMM slots but reads zeroes from all of them.
Basically I need to dump SPD from some modules that were sold to me as DDR-1866 but are made of DDR-1600 chips, and they do not work. There is no access to RAM clock rate in the BIOS, so I am SOL unless I can rebin...
