    Power Supply Suggestions

    Hi guys,
I have no experience in the field and I know 0 about computers, I need some help to make a choice, I put together a computer with some help a few years ago. Now I need to change the power supply that died last week. The one i would like to get is the RM750 W ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92. corsair.. is it compatible with P6T Deluxe?

    Re: Power Supply Suggestions

Moved from Introductions thread. This kind of question doesn't belong there.

To answer your question, yes, the RM750 is compatible, as is every other power supply on the market. However, I wouldn't recommend that unit. It uses junk caps and runs quite hot, so it will probably have a very short life. unless you're using two Graphics Cards, then you don't need 750W. A Seasonic G-550 would, in all likelihood, be more than enough.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Main PC: Core i7 3770K 3.5GHz, Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H-MVP, 8GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600, 240GB Intel 335 Series SSD, 750GB WD HDD, Sony Optiarc DVD RW, Palit nVidia GTX660 Ti, CoolerMaster N200 Case, Delta DPS-600MB 600W PSU, Hauppauge TV Tuner, Windows 7 Home Premium

    Office PC: HP ProLiant ML150 G3, 2x Xeon E5335 2GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 120GB Intel 530 SSD, 2x 250GB HDD, 2x 450GB 15K SAS HDD in RAID 1, 1x 2TB HDD, nVidia 8400GS, Delta DPS-650BB 650W PSU, Windows 7 Pro

Thank you so much c.. Is the 550 enough for long hours of editing? That's what I'll mostly do..

Regarding video editing and hard drive activity all PSU can handle that.

But beware to shown big spender when buying RAM of some quality, so to avoid unexpected crashes which would remove the laugh of your face.

^ We are talking about an already built PC that just needs the PSU replaced. There's no need to buy new RAM

Back on topic, The wattage you need will depend on what graphics card you have and how many you have. If you have one high-end graphics card, then a decent 550W will be fine regardless of your usage. If it's a low to mid range card, then you won't even need that.

Thank so much! I have only one evga gtx and I think 12gb of memory corsair... You guys think that the one I had died because 750w was too much for my need? It lasted 4 years thou.
Last time I was putting together my pc I also got stuck on the power supply!.. Do you know a good, reliable and silent one?

No, it wouldn't have died because of being overkill. It's just that it's a waste of money. What brand/model was it?

As for a replacement, I would suggest going with something from Seasonic, as they are probably the best of the retail brands. The two I'd suggest are the S12II 520W or the G-550. The G-550 is more efficient (meaning that it wastes slightly less power) and is modular (meaning some of the unused cables can be detached). Both are very good quality units.

You can get them both from newegg in the US

                  No problems.

If you old one was the Toughpower 750W model I'm thinking of, then it probably got bad caps. I've seen it happen to one (also around 3 or 4 years old).

This was a useless reply. Gibberish broken English that makes no sense and not helpful at all. Did you even read what he posted?

I agree with c_hegge a 550w should be plenty if you even need that much.

I would go with the first one he listed, the:

                      Re: Power Supply Suggestions

Something else to note... to the OP, don't trash the old PSU. Looking at some teardown reviews, it's a rebadged CWT... while notorious for bad caps, they (usually) make otherwise solid units and if you don't want to fix it, somebody around here might want to buy it to recap and use. You won't get the full price a used unit would go for, but IMHO anything well built, particularity 500W and up, even with bad caps is worth something... having bought/been gifted quite a few PSU's like that, given good soldering, the recapped PSUs are actually better (good caps will last longer) and I know I'm not alone (there are quite a few PSU experts around here who do it too and probably do a better job )

Heck, (cheesy slide-in ahead) I've actually been keeping an eye out for a 700W+ PSU to fix and upgrade my current rig (twin operon workstation with twin GPU's SLI'd)... it's current one is a 600W seasonic; I may want to put newer GPUs in it which would require a beefier PSU.

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
                        by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
                        by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Definitive technology SC 2000 subwoofer amp's power supply clicking and popping
                        by JimBanville
The sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...

                        Hello Everybody,

Trying to repair a power supply from a Russound CA4 Multizone Controller (picture attached)

Russound no longer supports it but were kind enough to provide a schematic of the power supply (pdf attached).

The outputs marked 12v and 20v are all measuring only 1v.

The board is clicking, which I think means it is in something called hiccup mode when the flyback transformers switches because of an internal problem or something else on the board Overloading it.

The capacitors physically look clean (no bludgesor leaks) and...
