    Busted Win7

Well I trashed the Win7 OS on my HP. At least I think that I did. Here is what I did to it. I have this DVD of the PET scan that I had done. I was trying to copy that disc. I couldn't copy this disc at all but I could view the content on the disc. Now my Nero, DVDFab8 and my media player are dead in the water. The disc does have and exe file that has to be run before before the PET scan can be viewed. I can't find anything installed on my system that relates to this exe file now. I uninstalled the Nero, and DVDFab8. Next I did a sytem restore to a date before I tried to copy the PET scan disc. During the restore the OS found and reinstalled the Nero, and the DVDFab8. The system does see the E drive but it still can't see a Movie DVD or copy anything at all. I did another uninstall and clean reinstall of Nero and DVDFab8. This still didn't get anything to work again. The only disc the system can see is that PET scan disc. I have about 800 megs of family photo's stored on the PC that I need to save before I can do a full factory restore from D:restore. My wife has the very same PC as mine so I set hers up to do the DVD copy work for now. I still need to fix my beloved toy PC!

JP, I do not know much about Win 7 but the problem could be that the exe file on the disc is a proprietory software that installs a driver in order to view the other files on the disc. Can you show us the name of the exe file?

You might have to restart the computer in safe mode and then look for hidden devices in the registry in order to gain access to the driver. The driver could be loading on start up of Windows 32bit drivers. If 7 is like xp then make shure you have full admin rights when you attemt this.

I just saved a few pics on my cameras memory card. I'm going to do the factory software restore now with a "format c:. I'm running out of hair to pull out over this one.

Do not auto-run that disc that has the pics on your pc again or you might be doing this all over the next time. Please let me know what the exe file is named; do not let your optical drive auto-run on the disc, turn off auto-run. The reason I ask is because once you know what the drive needs to see the pics you might be able to find a viewer for it. Good luck.

This issue sort of reminds me of StarForce drivers thou they were a real pain to get rid of even with the removal tool that the creators relunctantly released.

I'll find out what that exe file is by asking the Tech at the hospital. It might take a few days but I'll get you that answer. That CD isn't getting anywhere near my CD drive ever again.

Some exe files are actually compressed files. Others can be full of "cab" files.

Both can be opened on Linux, so that you can view and/or copy the files contained within, using gzip and cabextract.

I know, you don't use Linux.

I figured it out. My DVD/CD Burner is dead. It now reads nothing. Linux? No I don't use that drug.

Some EXE files are straight-out malware, and "drivers" designed to unlock files on a standard disc format like DVD UDF fits that category perfectly. All the more reason to disable autorun on Windows.

There is a fifth dimension, beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.

You asked for help with a problem, one that could (and may still be) a Windows malware problem. I gave you a very safe and secure method to open your files, and you replied with an insult.

The fact still remains, Windows is an insecure operating system. The fact I choose an operating system that is one of the most secure (Linux) does not make feel like a rebel.

The malware you may have introduced into your system may only infect older hardware. It has to be more than a coincidence that your drive died when you tried to run a program from it.

I won't offer you any help in the future.

                                          Good Afternoon fellas,

                                          Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
                                          - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
                                          - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
                                          - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

                                          Question:
                                          I...

Copying DMI information from an old bios to a new one is difficult for some members, often they have no experience with a hex editor,or some that have tried find it too hard. There is an option to make things easier for those members so that they don`t need to post their own bios backup for the DMI copying.

Experienced bios modding members can help by posting in other threads the DMI offsets, macro script generated by the software and a download link to the software at softpedia mentioned in this guide,or post your macros in the comments here with a link to the bios request thread ....
