Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
as for your existing Win XP 64 bit install, that would probably BSOD no matter what, as you would probably have the wrong chipset drivers loaded, as i assume the last motherboard to boot that OS had a different chipset.Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
i had a typo in the post about how i was running that board.. I had a PCIe 9400GT in the top PCIe slot, so that definately should work OK.. when you put two cards in SLI, i'm not sure if the PC will show a POST display on the second card..
I was running 8 pin CPU power and the 24 pin ATX connector, as the acbel 550W PSU had both of those.. I don't recall any other connectors on the motherboard itself thoughLeave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
I saw this in the Board's manual:
There are three power connectors on your Thunder K8WE.
The Thunder K8WE requires an EPS12V/SSI EEB 3.51 (24 pin + 8 pin) power
supply to boot. TYAN recommends using a split plane power supply because of
the amount of power the S2895 requires.
You also have an option of using an SSI v3.51 workstation power supply. This
is recommended when running both PCI Express slotsLeave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
There was an Xp x64 install on the RAID array which immediately BSOD'd... however, I don't know if it was working previosly or not as V3 wasn't stable.
The win 7 disc BSODed within seconds of a DVD boot attempt. BIOS would boot the disc, then a sec or two later, BSOD and hard reboot. Like something major was up. A RAM mapping issue would make sense but if it was working on 8gb ok, then I don't get why 16GB wouldn't. I may do a CMOS reset and start from scratch.Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
KZG's aside I think this is a software issue, do you have the latest BIOS?
I would try XP 32bit, 64bit, Win7 32bit, 64bit
In no particular order.
Also keep in mind several Windows OS have had issues during installation with more than 2/4GB of RAM, so might be useful to remove all sticks bar one during install and let it do all Windows updates then put them back in.
Also in systems like these the mapping of memory above 4GB is very important, there I can't help you with what is correct but trial and error usually solves it, or post what options you have and then I can give some recommendations.
What it basically comes down to is KISS, i.e. remove/disable anything the system does not need to POST, then try install, if it works enable/reinstall things one by oneLeave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
ECC was indeed enabled. Not sure on Memtest... I knew it reported ECC status but I didn't know there were settings within memtest.
My only other idea is since the upper pci-e wasn't tested... that could be the issue. Lot's of KZGs around there, so I'm still thinking a recap of all the KZGs would be a good idea just to be safe. KZGs make me wannaanyway...

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
It was running with (8) 1GB sticks of Reg ECC DDR, that were HP server pulls and a pair of Opteron 848's. I did run memtest on it over the weekend before i pulled the board from the system it was in. ECC should have been enabled already. It had one of the 550W AcBel PSU's running it. I never did try the second PCI slot, it had a 9400GT in the top PCIe slot.Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
Seems so. I actually managed to get Windows Vista SP2 working on my Tyan Tiger MPX S2466N-4M board, even the onboard NIC which has no Vista drivers, with no issues... then I installed WinXP Pro SP3 on it. I probably could get Win7 working on my board if I even bothered to do so.
vista probably had your drivers built in cause its such an old boardLeave a comment:

To those commenting on the post number one disclaimer: the job of a moderator is to keep rhreads on topic. This is not a "workstations suck" thread, so my disclaimer was warranted.

by iotaaHi,
You will probably find this funny, and it is, but it's also a project I'd like to take seriously.
I have a campervan and I'd like to avoid thieves to break in it when I am inside it or not.
For this purpose I imagined a simple device that can play a sound based on a vibration detection (in case of intrusion attempt) or by pushing a button manually.
The sound wil be a growling dog, which will deter any thief, thinking there is a big dog inside the van
This sound can be manually triggered by me if I'm inside the van, or played automatically... -
by sam_sam_samI have bought this Zener Diode for this project what size and wattage resistor value do I need to use to get near 50 watt output
I bought this from an eBay seller but unfortunately they only had one
I bought three from Vetco Electronics these are Sylvania ECG5185A 9.1@10w A to Stud what size and watt resistor do I need to use to get near 10 watt output
I bought three of from them to also make battery packs with this output power limit in mind
I want to use this battery pack and turn it into a 9.1 output battery pack output to eliminate using 9 volt battery... - Loading...
