Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
Yeah Furmark pushes them pretty hard. Were the fans actually at 100% or were they lower? I've seen some stupid video cards that even when getting up to 90C+ only went to 80-90% fan speed

Furmark pushes a GPU to it's absolute limits. What cooler is on the card? I use to have an 8600GT with the dinky stock cooler. Heated up like crazy. Put on a big ol' cooler and it never got over 40C after that.Last edited by 370forlife; 08-12-2013, 07:03 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
decided to furmark it... and when the GPU's got to 100C, I killed furmark.
Uh oh...
When I redid the heatsinks, I used this for the GPU die:

I take it that's not good enough... What is suggested to fix this?Leave a comment:

Those novabench results were not on the opteron system, they are the results of my current office machine, which is a dual quadcore xeon. I never did novabench the opti box before I dismantled it....I guess I should have.Leave a comment:

9.9? Why can't Microsoft just give a score out of 10 like everyone else?Leave a comment:

Topcat did a Novabench run on his current setup awile back:
Well, not sure how believeable this program is....its saying I have P3's, even after some patch they said it needed.....but here's the result after installing and running without a reboot. I had 2 browser windows up and outlook.
Specs....note what it says the processors are
...and the results...
From what I'm reading about this, the video card is the biggest killer of my overall score....
Here's what I got:

How do you get such high scores? I thought 7.9 was the highest possible score.Leave a comment:

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
I've never seen Windows performance index get above 5.9 with a single mechanical drive, my SSD scores 7.3 (lowest score on my system, when I can afford a second one I'll see if it's any better!)...
Never looked at what a RAID array scores, only RAID set-ups I have are in my server boxes.Gets an 8.2 in WEI. Everything else (CPU, Graphics, RAM, etc) get 8.1 which is funny.

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V3.5
Good to see you have it up and runningI think you might want to put the DIMM's in the black slots only to start with, then add them to the blues if you add more memory in the future. I didn't see anything specific about DIMM population though in the manual, so maybe you have it right.. I'd verify it's running in dual channel mode using cpu-z or another app like that..

The 15K SAS ousts the SSD in multiple random read/writes. The problem with SSDs is that they are only good at either writing or reading ONE thing at a time.
My stupid daughtercard LSI logic controller went haywire (no more 15K SAS), so I went SSD for the time being. I think I'll just get a proper adaptec PCIe controller.
--> keep in mind though, the 15K SAS drive sounds like a cement grinder on steroids (it's a fresh fairly new drive too, they're just inherently noisy). So if you don't like that type of sound, SSD is definitely the way to go for quiet computing.
(if anyone wants a sound sample I can gladly provide that).Leave a comment:

I exported a clean bios from update file via pfs extract.
1. Build clean bios with clean ME, PMC, PCH in flash image tool.
Result: Dead
2. Build clean bios with no changes in ME, new PMC, PCH

by iotaaHi,
You will probably find this funny, and it is, but it's also a project I'd like to take seriously.
I have a campervan and I'd like to avoid thieves to break in it when I am inside it or not.
For this purpose I imagined a simple device that can play a sound based on a vibration detection (in case of intrusion attempt) or by pushing a button manually.
The sound wil be a growling dog, which will deter any thief, thinking there is a big dog inside the van
This sound can be manually triggered by me if I'm inside the van, or played automatically... -
by sam_sam_samI have bought this Zener Diode for this project what size and wattage resistor value do I need to use to get near 50 watt output
I bought this from an eBay seller but unfortunately they only had one
I bought three from Vetco Electronics these are Sylvania ECG5185A 9.1@10w A to Stud what size and watt resistor do I need to use to get near 10 watt output
I bought three of from them to also make battery packs with this output power limit in mind
I want to use this battery pack and turn it into a 9.1 output battery pack output to eliminate using 9 volt battery... - Loading...
