    is this drive bad?

it randomly locks up during high access situations, its slow to boot, slow to access, and the and the reallocated sector count is through the roof as seen in the pic, so should i clone the disk or is it ok?

    Re: is this drive bad?

double check that. make sure it's an actual value, use hdat2 or smartctl

If that is the actual value, you have a failing drive. I don't know how it managed to survive that long, backup data!!!

Once you back up data, then you can try cloning the disk, my guess is and I have done this before with a failing toshiba drive using clonezilla, that it will most likely throw device not ready or failed to read errors and won't be clone-able.

only 2 bad sectors so the drive is ok? also the uncorrectable error rate it through the roof at 1932752060422 errors as reported by smartctl, is that bad?

it is shot/dying either way.. If there's something important on there i'd use ddrescue to get it, as it'll get everything it can if there are ungettable sectors on the disk.

all the bad sectors are in the swap partition so all the data is intact. i hope

Reallocated + Pending sectors = "Bad" Sectors

                0 = OK
1-10 = Keep an eye on it
11-50 = Don't use it for anything important (swap or whatever probably OK)
51+ = Back up IMMEDIATELY and do not use

                (In my opinion, anyway)

the seven other drives in the machine access 7 times faster than this drive

didn’t clone. so i grabbed a list of software installed with this command
                  Code:
                  $ dpkg --get-selections > /ihopethisworks/software.list
and copy my whole homedir to the new home-partition then re-installed my os'es. *sigh* now i have to go thru the tedius process of adding repository back. ah well at least it wasn’t RAID
heck it wasnt 5 minuts after i copied my homdir that i was getting a "drive inaccessible" error.

thanks everybody for your help you saved my but.

**Need Help Unlocking BIOS and Hard Drive on Dell Precision 5820 Tower**
                    by federalhouse
                    Hi everyone,

I'm in need of assistance with a Dell Precision 5820 Tower. The BIOS is locked with "Dell Security Manager," preventing access to the HDD-1 hard drive.

                    **Background:**

I recently purchased this Dell Precision 5820 Tower from a recycler who salvages equipment from abandoned office spaces. The computer was left behind by its previous owner and was password locked. Given that it can run Windows 11, I saw this as an opportunity to upgrade my setup.

                    **What I've Tried So Far:**

                    1. I accessed

I thought I'd throw out some of my personal experiences in the last 12 months with Intel iMacs, 2.5" SATA SSD drives and Fusion drive data recoveries.

As a backgrounder, Apple never fitted a 2.5" SSD's to these iMacs. Apple's SSD option was a system of 32GB NVMe blade drive (NGFF connector) and Seagate 1TB 2.5" HDD, married together in software to become a Fusion drive. Non Fusion systems have just the 1TB Seagate HDD.

So, the most common reason an iMac comes across my bench is because it's either ridiculously slow, or it fails to boot at all. The most...

So I've worked on dozens of HP and Dell laptops and have never encountered this before.
Steps taken in my usual process.
Reset security settings in the BIOS
Ensure existing HD comes up into the OS
Shut down the laptop and disconnected the main battery
Removed old M2 drive and replaced with a new 1tb Mushkin Temptest NVME drive. (I'm aware the bus is Sata III but the drive should still work at a slower speed right? Been my experience in other laptops)
Replace battery connector and close up the laptop
Insert my USB drive with my Windows 10 image I've...
