    GX280 not booting

    Hi guys!
I'm new here but I believe you can help out. I have a dell optiplex gx280 that is behaving in a strange manner. It all started after I opened to insert a memory module, which I did and then closed the machine(it's a desktop case). Then when i tried booting it, the machine didnt boot.I opened the machine again, took a look and everything was fine.I switched it while still open just to make sure it worked b4 closing it.This time it did boot and all was good. Then i closed the machine and tried switching it but failed to boot, the power LED kept on blinking. But when the machine is open everything works just fine. When i close n switch on the power LED jus blinks and nothing happens.

^^ Yup. Those Dell 'clamshell' cases are such a pain in the ass... Also check the seating of the RAM. Try removing the new RAM and see what happens. While you're in there, check the caps... The GX280 is another common board for bad Nichicon HM or HN caps...

        Re: GX280 not booting

Holy Damn!!!Yeah, you are right kc8adu. Its all results of poor workmanship at Dell labs. I jus checked the psu cables and they have been stripped bare by one those poorly finished metals that holds the floppy drive. So closing the case kinda short circuited the thing. I gues i'v to either change the psu or insulate the wires individually with an insulating tape. Thanx a lot guys!!!

Duct tape is probably cheaper than a new P/S, plus you might be able to use it on the burred bracket edges.

Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

820-01700 not booting, 4V PP2V5_NAND_SSD0 but 2.5V when the machine is off.
              by xdever
              Hi all,

I got a 820-01700 of a friend that doesn't turn on. I read that a typical issue with these boards is the TPS62180 generating the NAND voltages, so this is where I started looking. Sure enough, PP2V5_NAND_SSD0 is 4V when the machine tries to turn on (I try to determine this by measuring PP2V5_NAND_SSD1, which is 2.5V as it should in this case. The PP0V9_SSD0 and PP1V8_SSD0 power supplies for the SSD are on at the same time when PP2V5_NAND_SSD0 is 4V). The extremely weird thing is that when the machine is off (PP2V5_NAND_SSD1=0, PP0V9_SSD0=0 and PP1V8_SSD0=0), PP2V5_NAND_SSD0...

Janome DC3050 Sewing Machine Pedal Resistance
              by CG2
OK, this is a long shot. I got this sewing machine cheap because it's end of line, ex-display, and had no pedal. The genuine pedal costs £60, while Ebay knock-offs go for around £15. So I went for the knock-off, it doesn't work, and I'm not sure whether it's the pedal or the sewing machine that has the problem.

Now this is an electronic machine, unlike the old fashioned sort where the pedal was a big resistor in series with the power to the motor. Here, the pedal is just (I think) a variable resistor fed with a 5 volt supply, and limited to a current of 5 milliamps. Assuming that...

Dell Latitude 5590 i5-8350U LA-F411P kernel panic when booting from USB
              by Daniel Kubica
I got a bare Dell Lattitude 5590 with missing battery, RAM, RTC battery and Storage, I wanted to put some components in it and use it as my home laptop. After adding a FRU 2GB DDR4 2400 SoDIMM RamaxelRAMI've tried booting Linux Mint from USB, I got an error while trying to boot it. I tried reseating the stick, different slot, didn't help.
I tried to boot Windows 10 installer, as that was the stock system my model came with, got a BSOD as soon as the installer started booting, different code every time. I've tried switching to AHCI mode, I've tried linux in legacy mode, I've tried compatibility...

How to stabilize AC voltage to CNC machine
              by unimatrix93
Hello there everybody, I'm not sure if it's the right topic to ask this but I hope so.

I have a CNC machine wired to 3-phase 230V AC.

It's a smaller CNC machine with a 3500W motor, do it does not uses much power.

The problem is, when the residents come home and put load on the network, the voltage can drop to around 207V which is fine for most household items but by CNC machine stops working from this.

I contacted the electricity company but they refuse to help me solve this problem.

So I started to look around for some DIY...
