How to power a cell phone w/o a battery?

I have a broken Samsung Galaxy Vibrant, which has a broken digitizer and broken mini USB port. I'm trying to use as a radio station streamer at my work place.
I have tried replacing the USB port, but I have messed up the traces, they were very tiny and they lifted very easily.
Now, I'm left with only the battery connectors, to work with.
How could I power the phone in this situation?
Can I used the original 1A/5V USB power supply and get somehow 3.7V out of it and solder two wires to the positive and negative contacts of the battery?
If yes, how ca I get 3.7V out of 5V? Maybe using two diodes in series?
    Any input would be appreciated.

      Thank you.
It would be nice to get 3.7V though, no? Maybe with an adjustable one?
The question, what would be the right values to get that voltage?
      How about one of these?

Right now I have the charger connected to the battery. When it's not in use, I un-plug it and turn it off. It seems like it's working just fine.
It may damage the battery much sooner, but I don't care.
