    overclocking on air...

I was wondering about peoples success on overclocking their 4-core i5/i7 CPUs past well past 4GHz on air cooling. I'm running my i7-2700K at 4.1GHz because the motherboard starts beeping overheating alerts when I run at 4.2GHz (with all four cores at 100% utilization) - but doesn't crash. This is with the stock cooler.

The machine is already faster than I could ever imagine (for now ) but wonder how much further I could go... and maybe more if the cost is low...

I took my i5 2500k to 5.2ghz at 1.4v on air using the coolermaster hyper-212 plus, but couldn't get it to run stable and I was hitting 70 Celsius. Once you go past 4.7ghz you don't really see difference in speed or responsiveness, might crunch numbers faster but that's about it.

The FX-8320 i bought a couple of weeks ago is stock 3.5 ghz if I remember correctly and goes turbo to 3.7 or 3.9 ghz.
I don't know off the top of my head and I'm visiting my parents now and they have a crappy duron with 1gb of ram and searching for accurate info is NOT fun.

      I installed a Zerotherm FZ120 on it :

      http://www.frostytech.com/articlevie...articleID=2281
      http://www.silentpcreview.com/article849-page1.html

but i changed the fan on this one with a fluid dynamic bearing , Nexus Real Silent..

Anyway, with cool and quiet enabled the system is running at 900 mhz - 1.4 ghz when idle, in desktop, watching movies etc and temperature goes down to about 16-18c
When doing h264 encoding stressing all cores, temp goes up to 26c

so you can imagine there's plenty of room to overclock when i'll be in the mood.

Yeah I was a bit disappointed, the 2700K was base 3.5GHz and 3.9GHz turboboost, and all I could get was running 4.1GHz all the time on all four cores before hitting the temperature limit (which I'm not sure what it is)... I didn't muck with voltage because it has a stronger influence on temperature than frequency...

For crazy OC with air as medium of heat exchange, you really need some serious heatsink and fans. To reach stable 4.1GHz on six cores @ 1.53V from a base 3.0GHz 4-core Phenom II 960T I use this mthrfckr ...

... and a grand total of nine fans inside the case, all included.

This oven of a CPU draws 320W from the wall just by itself while grinding Prime95 blend/large FFTs, but the NH-D14 and the troop of fans manage to keep heat at bay.

            by ArtMov
Hi guys, i have a problem , my bios resets disabled overclocking lock setting to enable after reboot, please tell me which function can be responsible for restoring the stock config for this option, loading parameters from nvram and so on, like bios ,protection, from asus. My bios made me angry) Set default parameter to disable in amibcp 5 , doesn't help(

            1. I made overclocking lock disabled the default in amibcp
            2. I changed the varoffset to the wrong one, but it led to the programmer, it was very tedious and nervous, I really regretted it, my chip is on the back of the...

Asus ROG Ally X -RC72LA - changed hidden bios settings with 'Smokeless-UMAF', won't get past boot logo
            by throwaway327
ASUS ROG Ally X - (Handheld Gaming PC)
            Model No: RC72LA
            Serial No: SBNVKD001014459

Hi all, I've spent the past week digging through the forums and guides to try correct my foolish mistake of changing hidden settings while tinkering around, and to be honest my heads overloaded so I'm hoping you'll be able to help.

I used a tool called 'Smokeless-UMAF' to access usually hidden settings in the bios. I tweaked one or two 'safe' things but made the mistake of tweaking a lot of settings under 'USB/Thunderbolt Configurations' when I didn't know what they did. For...

            DAG35DMBAD0 REV. D - Not Charging Past 53%
            by repairdaemon
            Thanks for viewing my post.

            Device: HP Omen 15-ax205na | MB: DAG35DMBAD0 REV. D
Got the schematics and board-view from the forums here and have been "attempting" to troubleshoot the board.

Issue: Device does not charge past 53% at the moment. Turns on, boots perfect, no lag.

Have replaced the battery twice previously. Once a replacement battery. second time a HP original battery, in both cases, the battery didn't charge past 90-something percent.

Only thing I can tell, B_TEMP_MBAT goes to ground when it reaches 53%...

            X570 AORUS MASTER - won't post with BIOS past F22 (rev.1.2)
            by Mirenia
            Hi everyone,

I've got a strange issue with a X570 AORUS MASTER Rev. 1.2 motherboard. The owner (my cousin in law) told me that over time he got more and more bluescreens until the board won't boot/post anymore.
It showed only post codes "C8, C3" and won't boot

            I found a few things:
            - cpu was faulty/dead (For further tests I replaced it with my own ryzen 7 3700X)
            - with new cpu motherboard only runs on BIOS version F22 and below
-> And windows only runs stable if I set PCIe in BIOS settings to Gen 3. On automatic settings I got random...

both my laptops are in the yes list for patching bios however the digmorepaka github repo does not contain patches for p51 or p52.
I read that the t or w 530 patches may work, can anyone confirm or deny this?
All specs are in hardware-info.txt in the zip file i uploaded.
