    Waterfox

Who's tried it? Who's using it? ...and who likes/hates it??

Its not supported under XP64, so I loaded 7home prem onto one of these precision m6300's just to give it a run....I must admit, I'm digging it....not enough to switch to win7 on my main rigs, but I have noticed its a bit more snappy and seems better at memory handling than the equivalent version of firefox....

    Whats say all of you>?

I kind of expect Waterfox to be faster.

Because official builds use generic i386 instructions, which is going the way of dinosaurs!
Official builds don't take advantage of late processors.

Mozilla, at the time of this post, still refuses to make an official 64-bit build!

Mozilla high ups think like it's still 2004!

I spent a couple hours honing W7...and I'll probably kick myself for saying this, but I've gotten used to it....sorta... I denutted it, so it looks like XP....added a REAL quicklaunch....that pinning crap to the taskbar annoys me, as I always have a vertical taskbar, and quicklauch icons 3 per row....one per row when pinned is failsauce... I also got rid of all the useless resource sucking eye candy......and all of a sudden it doesn't feel like 7 anymore.

        Re: Waterfox

Yeah, Waterfox is great I was using it on multiple computers and my friend Chris (not anybody on here, somebody I know IRL) is now using it...
it does perform a lot better, and it was 64-bit Flash, Java, Silverlight, etc. on their website.

Only reason I'm not using it now is because I want FF 13.0 beta because I like some of the new things, and there is no Waterfox beta.

I don't use waterfox at home because I refuse to install windows 7 on any of my PCs, although I guess I could try it at work.

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

I use ff alpha (nightly) 64 bit and its VERY fast. has never crashed on me. the offical release (v12) crashed on my laptop every once in a while

            using 64-bit flash and everything.

yay TC's starting to warm up to win7. Areo really dosen't take that much if you nuder it itself. get rid of the background and disable gadgets. but areo transparency in itself dosen't 'take' any resources on its own, it just adds transparency. Other areo features however do. Most of the transparency stuff runs on video anyways, so it dosen't really such much cpu at all ether.

I can vouch for that as well. Turn off window animations, sliding taskbar buttons and crap (which you likely had disabled in XP too), and Aero uses next to no resources. As for the taskbar, i'm happy with it in its default position. The only modification i made is to set text labels to always show.

I installed Waterfox at work (and I'm typing this post from it). It does seem faster than firefox, and much better than IE. I'm still not downgrading my main PC to Windows 7, though.

Some other methods to bring the start menu back stopped working in the developer preview version. Classicshell? Doesn't give a flying fuck..
No, I mean't why would one want to upgrade to 8 just to do that... If it were a bundled copy, I see the point...

IDK.. It's just something a guy on another forum tried and it happens to work.
I don't really know anyone who would want to "upgrade" to Win8 anyway, apart from some stupid die-hard fanboys on windows forums
(the troll kind, downvoting every comment that criticizes win8 in one of the forums I know (which has a +/- post voting plugin))
