Request: Need Help Regarding Mobo Display

I got on Intel Motherboard 845. One day when I turned on my PC, CPU lights were on and monitor green light was blinking with no display. Unable to find out what went wrong, all caps were in order, no burning or nothing of that sort.

I took it to some techie locally. They repair mobo using CROs. He took the board and went in the other room. (Glass Partitioned). I don't know what he did but was sure no use of soldering iron, no multimeter or anything.

He just placed the a RAM, Processor and plugged the display cable in the display port. He then touched somewhere near the PCI slots with the CROs red wire and (got some display on the CROs screen) display was there. That board is working fine till date.

Can anyone please tell me what has he done just by touching somewhere near the PCI slots and how he got the display just within seconds.

Please help. I want to know about it.

    Regards to all.

If the board looked good on close inspection, my guess would be, he cleared the CMOS. Google CMOS jumper or clearing CMOS. It resets the BIOS to default and only takes seconds via the jumper. It can be cleared by removing the battery and waiting a good while. I had to do that on a board awhile back. Took a shower, ate dinner, then reinstalled the battery and was good to go again. My BIOS prefferences had to be reset but no big deal on that point. Read your motherboard manual, as it's all there. If you lost it, print it out from thier homepage if you can. I tape the manual, enclosed in a Zip-Lock bag, on the inside of the right case cover

EDIT: That's an older board. The battery could have also been replaced. They generally last over 5 years.

Thanks Galvanized for replying and seeing the problem.

No he never replaced the battery or removed the jumper. He did something else which I tried to ask him but he refused me to tell.

did you see any obvious method he used to start the computer or did he just short the power button pins with the clip at the end of the scope's red wire to start it and then clip on the wire to get a reading on the scope.?

what i was thinking was that if he didnt clear the cmos which is the obvious then he didnt do anything and just sitting without power for a while fixed it

Re: Request: Need Help Regarding Mobo Display

I accept everyones view. But all of you tell me when everything is fine, CMOS is functioning properly, CPU turns on, No bad caps, No burning, No shorts on mobo, No beep representing any error eg. RAM BEEP DISPLAY BEEP, monitor is functioning properly, then also getting no display. WHY
I myself installed a new battery, clear cmos and left if for 8 -10 hrs. Thereafter I was standing alone.

Then you guys tell me whats the problem.

Today I enquired someone about the related matter and they said something about charging and discharging the mobo but he too never told me anything about it very clearly. He just said we ground the black wire and charge the board with red.

              This also confused me alot.

              Maybe helpful to you.

yeah on the scope black is for ground and red for input but it does not charge the board

Oddly enough, I had the same problem with a few boards a while back. I set them aside for a month or so and tested them out again the other night, 2 out of 3 with this problem sprung right to life. I'm still scratching my head as to why, too...
You know there's something wrong when you open up a PSU and are glad to find Teapos.
Why I don't buy cheap cases!

Request: Plz Help :No Booting...........No Display

Day before yesterday I worked on my PC till late hours. The very next day I turned on my pc and it got stuck. No booting, No display, No Beep nothing. But the LEds on the cabinate were turned on and monitor LEd was blinking.

I unscrewed the cabinate and clear the CMOS but nothing happened. Then changed the Jumper and left the main board for the whole day, there after nothing happened. Checked the mobo for bad cap or some burn outs. Nothing of that sort was found.

CMOS battery is working fine. Onboard Display. Intel Mobo. RAM working fine, PSU working Fine.

Please Help me guys whats the problem and how to solve it.

jarus, I have nothing to offer today but a link with some decent basic flow charts that can be of help for diagnostics. I've talked to ppl that have dug out the old spare 15"CRT because they had no video, just to find the VGA cable was loose when they went to switch over.

http://www.fonerbooks.com/pcrepair.htm I still use this site to jog an old brain that CRS.

I think you might find this link very helpful in setting up your BIOS if you need or want too.

http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx on the left> BIOS Opt. Guide. It's more than you need to know in very understandable language.
