    AMD AM2 motherboards Ram Shorted

I have 2 AMD AM2 motherboards that have been confusing the heck out of me. In both something is shorted in the ram section. I checked out the mosfets and the caps but short remains.

One is a TA790GXB... capacitor went out near the ram and I replaced it. Worked fine for a little bit and then poof. Cap appears fine, I changed a few others but no dice. Also changed 2 mosfets but issue remains.

The other is a M2RS485-BTX.. no obvious caps but short throughout 5v. Caps in almost the same spot as the TA790 are shorted as are mosfets in the same section but the component thats actually out is somewhere else. I've pulled most of them off the board and they tested good.

Anyone else have ram issues on AMD AM2 stuff? What did it end up being?

I got the second board working... I changed 2 caps near the 5v to 3.3v regulator. It still looks shorted tho... but system works. I don't get it.

The Biostar board has a bunch of OST caps near the RAM slots... Did you change ALL of them?

Not ALL of them. I should hit that board next when I find the CPU. But why would caps appear shorted and have 0 ESR and then be fine out of circuit?

I fixed the HP board because another suspect cap appeared open in circuit then puffed up during testing.

cause unless you trace the other components to that cap, you never know what the total resistance is going to be 'in circut'. Theres tons of components put together that can create a reading like that

Caps supplying a northbridge or CPU or other high power chip often look shorted when the component is in place.

I second this. All chips have protection diodes too, which can cause the readings to be different if you reverse the multimeter probes.

Modern CPUs draw over 100A peak at 1.x volts; that is an effective resistance of ~10mOhm. This is when they're actually operating since CMOS circuits ideally only draw power on clock transitions, but in CPUs the leakage current through the MOSFETs even when idle with the clock stopped is not small - quoting Intel on the "8-9W" idle power consumption of the recent i7s, that's 5-6A at the 1.x volt supply, meaning the CPU has a static resistance of < 1 ohm.

                Panasonic TC-P50S1 shorted TXNSC1EDUU (TNPA4782AB) SC Board
                by Yanleb
Hi every one. I just want to share the successful repair of my shorted Panasonic TNPA4782AB SC board.

I don't usually do it but so many parts were shorted that I decided to buy the ShopJimmy repair kit instead of sourcing each components individually. Here is the list of components the kit contained, with a remark indicating if I needed that part or not :

                D608, good
                D618 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)
                D619 RF101L4S, good (See warning 1 below)
                D865 RF101L4S, shorted (See warning 1 below)

                HP Victus 15-FA1025NL , board DAG3PAMB8D0 REV:D, shorted CPU DrMOS and n-mos
                by modtool
                Hi to all,
the owner of this machine gave it to me after having opened it to take off the dust from the inside, telling me that after that it didn't start anymore.
I found that one of the DrMOS (AOZ5016QI) on the CPUCORE was shorted between VIN and VSWH, and that one of the two n-mos connected to the power jack was shorted aswell.
I unsoldered the two shorted components and verified that there were no other short circuits, then decided to power the mainboard, firstly with the lab power supply, then with its original HP 200w charger, but the behaviour is the same, the board starts...

                MSI 7600 GT, shorted capacitors
                by FlameOnion
I got this gpu that does not work, is not detected in windows(not shown as a pcie device),the heatsink got a little warm. MSI 7600 GT PCIE, NX7600GT-T2D256EZ.

Tested in different motherboards, same issue. I got it with a capacitor broken(one leg was left), and an broken indictor related to fan pwm I think.
As a hobby I tinkered with arduino, I got a soldering iron and a hot air gun, no experience in repairing(occasionally watched videos of northridgefix)

I measured randomly capacitors for short and found some shorts on a few, and found short on a few mosfets....

Dead Razer Blade 14 2022, shorted CPU?
                by BalkanBoy
                Hi,

                today I got Razer Blade 14, Ryzen 9 6900HX and RTX 3070Ti.

Laptop was completely dead. I found shorted CPU VRM mosfet, shorted 19V mosfet and blown battery fuse.

I replaced it all, but still on CPU coil where mosfet was shorted I got very low resistance, near 0 ohms. On other CPU coils I got around 3 ohms.

Laptop now raises voltage on whole board, but still nothing comes on the screen. CPU gets 0.7V on all coils except the shorted one. CPU gets only slightly hot, below 40 C.

I removed coil and injected 0.7V, it draw around...

Dell Latitude 5501 LA-H181P shorted power rail
                by guizmo1967
                Hello,

                This is my problem:

                Laptop: Dell Latitude 5501
                Motherboard: EDC51 LA-H181P

I have two power rails shorted to ground, +1.0V_PRIM and +3.3V_ALW_PCH. I removed solder on PJP302, +1.05VALWP (pad1) not shorted but +1.0V_PRIM (pad2) shorted.

                I also cleaned PJP38, pad1 not shorted, pad2 (+3.3V_ALW_PCH) shorted to ground.

I measure the resistance of all the coils on the motherboard and they all were not shorted to ground except coil PL301 before I removed the solder on PJP302.

                I injected +1.05V - 2A...
