    Re: My system restarts no warning

    Corsair used to be the best stuff you could get.
    I agree they've lost that title. - I think about DDR2.
    If you stay away from their high-end product lines usually it at least usually works.
    Their high-end lines only work sometimes. Very picky. Hit-miss.
    .
    Kingston Value-Ram has worked in everything I've tried it in - even servers.
    .
    [Mostly for server RAM]
    If buying used: Samsung that is branded 'for HP' has worked in everything I've tried it in and sometimes it's really inexpensive because the 'for HP' scares a lot of buyers off.
    .
    I've seen a lot of gripes about Samsung for regular PC's but I've never ever had a problem with Samsung RAM myself so I dunno where those complaints are coming from.
    Maybe they are all using bitchy Asus boards... LOL.

      And DDR3 is worse again. not even the lower end stuff works. We always get BSODs in new systems when we use corsair. Kingston works fine.
      I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

      No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

        That's what I meant. - From DDR2 on.

        Not sure about Corsair DDR [meaning DDR1].
        I haven't seen enough of that to say.

        Corsair PC133 was kick-ass though.
        Back then Kingston was the iffy one.

          Re: My system restarts no warning

          I prefer RAM without heat sinks. Heat sinks tell me they are overclocking to push chips to the next speed level and overclocking RAM is excessively uncool. I'll wait 6 months until the chips have improved to where they don't need cooling any more.

          I'd buy if they'd heat sink RAM chips that already run cool but that never happens.

            I think the heat-sinks on RAM are just bells and whistles myself.
            .
            They add a few cents worth of sheet metal and raise the price $5 or $10.
            .
            [IIRC]
            DDR is like 14 watts/stick and heatsinks were rare.
            DDR2 is like 7 watts/stick and heatsinks are common.

            Just don't make sense, does it...

              Re: My system restarts no warning

              I had some RAM with those thick finned aluminum heatsinks and those actually made matters worse.
              .
              As installed there was almost no clearance between the heatsinks so all those things did was block the air flow between the modules.

                    Dunno what your board takes but this is what that RAM is.
                    .
                    KVR = Kingston Value RAM
                    1333 = 1333 MHz
                    D3 = DDR3
                    N = Unbuffered
                    9 = CL9
                    K2 = Kit w/2 Modules
                    8G = 8G for the Kit

                      It is compatible with my pc (speed and voltage) and unbuffered.

                      I have attached the QVL PDF.

                        I've had 3 corsair ddr sticks

                        2x512 XMS with silver-colored jackets. put in A8N-E. works beautifully still
                        1x512 /w the cool leds. still works fine.

                        I actually have two sticks of similar to these (except 2x1gb)

                        http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=24035

                        with the fan included. Got them for free, don't ask! Still don't know if they work. Like 4-3-4 shit. I should pop out the old P5N and test them sometime, maybe sell them here if they do. but they're so cool I'm almost afraid to

                              I even had those too. 2GB of PC3200 with LED's they were awesome then 5 years down the line one stick died. Called up corsair but they didn't manufacture them anymore, so I had to take some regular XMS in exchange.

                              But about 2 years ago I bought another 2GB DDR2-800 with LEDS and they are still working. But I had to RMA the first batch I got. They worked for 20 minutes after I installed them then the LEDs on one stick died and even the stick no longer registered. Not surprised because I called up newegg and bitch them out for sending these sticks in a simple envelope that had a foot print on it. Considering I work for UPS, I know it was a loose small in a feeder and it fell on the floor when someone was loading or unloading and step on it.

                              1x512 /w the cool leds. still works fine.

                              I actually have two sticks of similar to these (except 2x1gb)

                              Glad to see it working for someone.

                              That's why you go to the memory manufacturer and use their memory finder/compatibility finder tool then when it doesn't work just call and bitch them out. LOL!

                              I still find it weird that I've had use these sticks exclusively and had good experiences with them.

                                      Some RAM passes all tests yet still crashes the machine. I recently diagnosed a DDR3 Dell that had to sit idle 2-3 days to crash. That means I get one test per weekend and it took a week or so to determine the test methodology. It took 4 weeks to swap back and forth between 2 modules but I got it.

                                      I can't always run tests exhaustively so I prefer RAM that has a no hassle no receipt warranty. Most of the time that's Kingston.

                                      DDR3 seems to have made worse the problem where two perfectly good sticks refuse to work together.

                                        When two sticks work fine individually but won't work together it's usually a RAM voltage regulation problem on the mobo.
                                        Sometimes that's bad caps. Sometimes it's bad VR design.
                                        .
                                        Some of the socket 478 boards had a bad VR design such that if you went to 4 sticks the RAM started screwing up.
                                        It turned out Intel made a mistake when they published the design requirements for the RAM VR.
                                        Anyone that built boards to the minimum required by the spec ended up with a dodgy board that wouldn't work reliably with 4 sticks.
                                        .

                                            Asus B85M-GAMER absolute no hdmi output (not at start, not at Windows), and random restarts. Everything work, except hdmi and random restarts after 0.1-3 min. Restarts even in bios. On VGA Windows boots up fast, games and apps starts ok. Mem, psu, cpu changed, no luck. I need shematic, because i think the restarts caused by the hdmi failure.

                                            LG Gram 15Z980 picked up on Ebay for $200 (was sold as parts because no M2 drive and bios pw locked), but otherwise intact and working.

                                            Threw a 500gb M2 in, and was able to install Windows. On Gram, Win activation is stored in the bios, so Windows was automatically activated. I still kept getting random bsod's. Also bought a pw and unlocked the bios.

                                            Upgraded Windows to 11, still didn't solve the random & frequent bsod's. Cleaned & reseated all cables, RAM, etc... still getting frequent bsod's. Bought & installed a new stick of RAM, still getting frequent...

                                            Hi, I've exhausted lots of software side options to try and fix why my nvidia 2070 GPU has disappeared from my gaming laptop MSI GL75-10SFK. The system boots and functions normally but only using Intel integrated graphics. Before, it was working fine then began having some blue screens. (I will attach the system event and mini-dump at the end of post). After a few days of the occasional BSODs it finally disappeared from device manager and never came back. I researched and attempted to troubleshoot this issue but im out of options and was wondering if yall had some ideas maybe on the hardware side....
