Dell GX620 Power Supply squealing and buzzing?

    Dell GX620 Power Supply squealing and buzzing?

    So, the power supply in my main rig (Dell OptiPlex GX620) has been working fine. But, it makes weird buzzing and squealing noises. I opened it up and found a bulged OST cap on the secondary side. Could this be the problem?
    The insides look kinda shabby to me. Small heat sinks and interestingly, another transformer mounted on the cover. Let me know what you think.

      Possibly. On my friend's Antec 350 power supply, it was a small startup cap 22uF 50V if I remember correctly. These smaller 6mm caps never usually bulge though.

          Could be the bulged cap, although OSTs are known for failing without showing any physical signs so if you have one bad cap you may have others that aren't showing it, so it would probably be best to replace all caps from suspect brands.

              Okay, I guess I can try that. I just have to get ahold of the caps.

                  I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

                  Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

                  I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

                  The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

                  With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                  I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

                  One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

                  I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

                  I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

                  I am trying to repair an ancient Dell 2209WA Monitor which suddenly shut off with a pop sound. On investigation found that one of the fusible resistors had blown. Further investigation identified multiple components as faulty because of which the fusible resistor blew. Please refer the attached circuit diagram showing the components that were found to be damaged.

                  1. FR950 - blown fusible resistor - 0.2 Ohm 1W
                  2. Q950 - shorted Q950 MOSFET - 650V 10A N Channel Mosfet
                  3. R835 - Blown Resistor - 20KOhm SMD resistor
                  4. D930 - Shorted Schottkey Diode...

                  I would like to share my experience about charging issues with Dell power supplies with the tech community. I am working on a Dell Inspiron 5590, Mainboard 18778-1 with charging problems. The device can be switched on and works so far, only the message appears at startup:

                  Alert! The AC power adapter wattage and Type cannot be determined. The battery may not change. The System will adjust the performace to match the power available.
