Re: For the CRT monitor freaks - highest resolution you ran on your tube?
Me too,i have A Trinitron old tube Sony KV36HS500 and i connect it to my computer and to my Roku4 and My Nfusion HD combo OTA Satellite receiver and the HD pic put my Vizio LED and Vizio LCD displays to shame as Picture concern.
And this Sony has 14 years,i only had to repair it once it was the integrated circuit IC MCZ3001DB that faild.

Finally installed the Vision Master Pro 514 (HM204DT) and it's pervert! Back to 1920x1440@85 baby…just have to get used to smaller texts once again lol. But I am looking forward to all those FullHD movies again in full quality!Last edited by Behemot; 04-29-2016, 05:47 AM.Leave a comment:

try the following terminal commands on this page. from the device id e.g. [10de:xxxx] (rev xy), we should be able to figure out what card it is.Leave a comment:

Re: For the CRT monitor freaks - highest resolution you ran on your tube?
That'd probably be 128 card and 128 Powercache. Powercache just uses some system ram as video ram and slows down the 6200 worse than it already was new.Leave a comment:

Unfortunately I no longer own any copies of Windows on a machine that can run the card. Hoping the data can be gleaned from debug output from nouveau.Leave a comment:

run gpu-z with the driver installed to be sure. look at the number of shaders, texture units and rops then compare it to the list to be sure. evga could have used a non-standard, unofficially supported memory size...Last edited by ChaosLegionnaire; 02-04-2016, 12:13 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: For the CRT monitor freaks - highest resolution you ran on your tube?
Well, as far as I know I have 256MB on this card, which sort of conflicts with the 128M that the Wikipedia article seems to imply that the 6200A . I probably have the 6200LE "low excrement" edition?Leave a comment:

Re: For the CRT monitor freaks - highest resolution you ran on your tube?
Yeah I was keeping the Rage Pro Turbo AGP (8MB) mostly as a test card, but perhaps now I can use the GeForce 6200 as a test card
Alas the Rage is probably quite a bit less power than the GeForce. The Rage has no heatsink, and I don't need to worry about it running into any cards right next to it.
I also have a GeForce4 MX440 and a GeForce2 Ti but both these cards have fans. I think I also have a GeForce 5200 somewhere. I need to find something to do with these cards...Leave a comment:

It would be a quick painless death, so no worries. I promise!

Yes, it uses a 64-bit memory bus and it's the latter NV44 GPU with TurboCache (TC). Can't do the softmod on this one to unlock the 4 extra pixel shaders :\ .
Anyways, info here:

Do a full recap - even if it's with ChangX/ChongX/Chong-whatever caps. Those FZ caps are pure garbage. Guaranteed to pop.

Re: For the CRT monitor freaks - highest resolution you ran on your tube?
Even if it's clear, that's still crazy-small on a 17" screen! No scratch that - the viewable diagonal is only 15.9" for 17" CRTs. Did you increase all of the system fonts and icon sizes? I just can't imagine how painful that would be to look at from any reasonable distance without squinting your eyes all the time.
Anyways, I also wonder what tube that 17" of yours had. My D1025HTX and D1025TM (both 17" Trinitrons) have M41LKN70X and M41LKN50X tubes, respectively. I guess those are run-of-the-mill??
I still have this monitor, and although it works perfectly,I don't want to die from the high voltages inside(seriously)

Re: For the CRT monitor freaks - highest resolution you ran on your tube?
Ah that's probably a good way to guess. And yeah this looks like it's a 64-bit card despite the amount of ram on it (256M). I also have a bunch of Radeon 9250's with 128M but have bumps for another 128M, I wonder how bad it would be to stick more RAM chips on it... and in this case the bumps are in an 'L' formation to each other and thus the 128M upgrade is more of the 128-bit upgrade...Leave a comment:

Re: For the CRT monitor freaks - highest resolution you ran on your tube?
hmm i can help identify if its a 64 bit or 128 bit version by looking at the arrangement/placement of the ram chips. if its arranged in an "L" pattern its 128 bit. if its in an "I" pattern, esp if its a low profile board, its 64bit. post a pic of the card to be sure.
another way, is to look at the part numbers printed on the ram chips and then looking up the part numbers to see if its an 8, 16 or 32 bit wide individual memory chip then multiply it by the number of ram chips on the card. that will give u either 64 or 128 which is the overall bus width of the video memory.
and lastly, please put a fan on that gf 6200. its affected by the bumpgate scandal which means NO operating at temperatures above 60°C or else u will get treated to an "abstract art painting" on your screen soon enuff...Last edited by ChaosLegionnaire; 02-02-2016, 04:14 PM.Leave a comment:

Re: For the CRT monitor freaks - highest resolution you ran on your tube?
I ended up replacing most of the caps on the GeForce 6200 (256M -- this is a lot of memory compared to most of my video cards minus my 1G RadeonHD 5770). I ended up putting in cheap and some phony caps I "got had" that I had onto it, because I wasn't sure if the card worked. When I first stuck the card in, bad caps and all, my computer would not even finish POST. After putting the "new" caps in, it at least POSTed and looks like the Linux Nouveau driver works fine. It's slow however, seems like a 64-bit RAM data bus card. I'll need to see if there's a way within Linux to be sure.
Now I wonder if I should replace the rest of the caps. I had chumped the card replacing two pairs of exploded 1000 microfarad capacitors with two fake nichicon 3300 16V microfarad capacitors (which I measured to be 2200 microfarad, probably 10V, and look like teapos). And one 1000 microfarad capacitor I swapped with another 1000 microfarad 16V Chongx. All of them I had to make the capacitors bend over as they're way too high and would run into the card right next to it.
Since the original caps were all 6V, I figure the slightly higher voltage margin might help things out a bit.
I suspect this GeForce 6200 may end up killing these new caps too as it's fanless, and probably can get quite hot. Alas, I don't think I'll use this card much anyway. It's a spare... maybe I should dump the Rage.Leave a comment:

I find that 17" and 19" tubes usually offer the best contrast. With the 21" tubes, not always - at least not with my Trinitrons. Only my Hitachi SuperScan 814 has good contrast that is actually comparable to the smaller tubes.Leave a comment:

Re: For the CRT monitor freaks - highest resolution you ran on your tube?
Was anything even visible at that resolution? Also, are you sure it was a Trinitron tube? IIRC, Philips was always shadow mask or Chromaclear in some cases. If it was a Trinitron, I bet the vertical convergence was terrible. Trinitrons always have good horizontal convergence, due to the aperture grill design.
The colors are so vivid on it that my Horizon H-W2205S (a custom-built Benq FP92W from what I know) isLeave a comment:

by momakaNormally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

by wattageHello Badcaps Community,
I purchased a preowned AOC monitor that is not working and out of warranty. It was sold as not working. I am looking for guidance on self-repair. In particular, I am after the firmware for the monitor. At the end, I have included monitor model information and links to pics and vids of the issue.
The problem is that it will not display a picture on any of its inputs. And the on-screen menu does not appear. The power button works properly. It powers on with the remote as well. But the on-screen menu does not appear, even when not connected to any...-

by Rick_1234Good evening, gentlemen.
I have a problem with my monitor. It turns off after a few seconds or flickers. Shining a flashlight on the screen doesn't show any image, so I guess it's not the "2 seconds to dark" I read in the forum.
To turn it back on, I have to press the power button twice. Then after a few seconds it turns off again or flickers. See video.
