    CPU usage utility?

Not the task manager. I would like to find a freeware utility that list item by item that is hogging the CPU cycles so I can fine-tune my main computer.. CPU is E5200 (i know old but it's plenty for my needs right now) and 2GB.

Second. What antivirus and malware scanners that utilize least CPU cycles? AVG got too greedy now.

    Cheers, Wizard

    something like those..?

edit: 2nd one isn't freeware unfortunately but if you like it and you can live with a slightly older version (9.2.0 instead of 9.2.1), shoot me a PM.. *cough*

    i also found this

edit2: as for the antivirus.. i'm using MS Security Essentials. probably not the best, but it's free and it doesn't pop up nag screens all the time like for example AntiVir/Avira.. (buy the full version.. blah blah..)

Nothing wrong with task manager unless you just want to add another process to the list of running apps hogging your system. Microsoft Security Essentials is free and for the free ones is the best IMO.

MS Security Essentials is free and has been fairly light on resources, in my experience.

Newer Norton (2010+) is good too with resources, but not free. Older Norton was awful.

Process Explorer by MS Sysinternals is good for monitoring process cpu usage, disk usage, etc. If you're on Vista or Win7, make sure to run as admin. It won't prompt you for admin rights, and some options are unavailable in non-admin mode. Process Explorer is leaps and bounds above task manager in that you can actually see what services are running under a particular svchost.exe instance, and narrow down a service that's eating too many resources.

I'm using Panda cloud on one machine and Immunet cloud on this one. Immunet takes consumes maybe 30KB of memory. Yes, thirty.

Medion Erazer beast x25 62307 MSN 30031969 GM5ZGXW AMD version

Hello. The laptop freezes and resets only at low CPU usage, practically at IDLE after a few minutes. There is no problem under a load, and I benchmarked it for over an hour. I noticed that one of the CPU coils was making whining noise at low CPU usage. I previously thought it was a BIOS problem, but updated BIOS and no change. I'm thinking of changing the CPU DrMos'es there are 5 of them all together. I have already swapped the DrMOSes first one with the last one (I desoldered them and soldered in swapping DrMos no.1 with...

Help with Thinkpad Maintenace Utility on T590
            by x16
            Hi,

i unlocked my T590 with SVOD4 and wrote new ec from lenovo site. Now password is gone but dmi is missing now. So i have to write it back with Thinkpad Maintenace Utility.

I now have newest version of lenovo U1 golden key software (3.5.52) for USB boot stick. This tool starts the Thinkpad Maintenace Utility V1.20.
But i can't initialize eeprom. It says: "ERROR: Written data is unmatch."

So i can't write sn number without initializing it first.

            Any ideas?

A1708 unable to reinstall Monterey after factory reset - disk utility error 478
            by AJ847.63e
            Hi all,

I've got a A1708 which we decided to sell off as we no longer use it. We factory reset the device to wipe all data which went fine but when trying to reinstall macOS it fails with the generic “ MacOS “Installation Failed, An Error Occurred While Installing”. I've tried the usual solutions like the first aid utility apple recommends and also disc utility delete the partitions but still get the same error. Digging into the logs you can see it's giving an error 478 but unfortunately wasn't able to get much info on that on google so I'm unsure where to go from here....

Recognising an item on a MacBook Pro 13" 2020 A2251 motherboard
            by Kristion
Hi there, I had a MacBook Pro 13" 2020 A2251 at work, and it suddenly stopped working without having being bad to it (I ride my bike everyday though). I replaced the motherboard so now it works again, but with other data. I would like to repair the 661-15938 motherboard. I spotted where it burned, I saw that there is a post where there are the 820-01949 pdf and bvr but I don't know what to do with it. I tried to install OpenBoardView because it seems like it's what I should use to have a look at the schematic view of my motherboard. But I failed:

But surely some people on this...
