    Maxtor death click

Well...it was bound to happen. I have a Maxtor drive that just clicks now. First HD failure I've ever had. Funny....it was after I cleaned out the case. I'm thinking the layer of dust was insulating it somehow.

I popped on a board from a 20GB Maxtor...the clicking stopped, but I'm guessing the size difference caused it not to be recognized. Sadly, I cannot find any of my old IDE drives (i used to be loyal to Maxtor)

anyone have an old Maxtor drive laying around that you don't need? The one I have that went bad is a 96147U8.

    cheers!

        well.....according to this, its a 60GB DiamondMax.

I'll take a pic of the board tomorrow after I see the doc....maybe.... I'll obviously pay S&H as well as a finders fee.

The data on the drive isn't critical, but i'd like to save it if at all possible....

You can't use just any board from any drive of the same make/size/model. You have to use the exact same board from a good drive as the board on your dead drive (exact same part number) and yes they can be different and often are or have several different part numbers for the board for the exact same hard drive part number.

you would have this happen after i dumped 90% of my parts donor drives as scrap.no demand for recovery on older drives.post your needs and i will check.i remember maxtors being some of the easier drives to match boards on.as in not size dependant.

yeah kc...i did the same thing last year. thats what i get.

what info do i need to provide? This is what i know:
              DiamondMax
              60 GB
              Model# 96147U8
              Manuf Date of 13May2000
On the biggest chip is a sticker that says A8DNP1
The board says: Maxtor....FISH'N.M16+....301252104 (i did the ...for the different lines)

its not crucial data, but i'd like to recover it if at all possible.

If you are in doubt about serials and board #'s check the logic chip big black square looking thing make sure it is branded with the same name lets use VIA for example if the numbers on the chip match the numbers on the replacement board and the size of the disk lets just say data will be back where it belongs in your hands.

Ps4 Pro long blue light of death
                  by Gjackson
                  Hi,
I have an NVA-001 Ps4 Pro with long blue light of death, visual inspection looks fine apart from dust and the very dried thermal paste which I cleaned and replaced, I scoped the board around for any shorts on capacitors and there were none, no blown fuses either. Looking under a thermal camera, southbridge gets warm along with APU and phases for the APU. I cannot tell if RAM is too cold? maybe not powered? but RAM chips are all the same temperatures. At this point I removed NOR and enabled UART to diagnose further. The only thing I get from UART is this following message:
                  ...

Sony 49XH9505 four flash of death
                  by protonusr22
                  Hello,
I own a Sony 49XH9505 123.2cm Smart Android 4k quite new bough brand new in 2021. Just after the warranty has expired it had died on me.
The symptoms are the following: right after turning on backlight turns on and this loading screen appears, than the display turns off and the red led flashes four times.
Any idea how to fix it or if it at least fixable? Does this sign related maybe some SoC/DSP and its circuits or just some simple power supply issues somewhere ?

                  Many thanks in advance,

Hi initially suspected Va & Vs being low but they do come back up to very near spec.
The screen looks pixelated & blotchy any ideas?...

Tivo Series 3: Green blinking light of death
                  by SluggerB
Anyone familiar with these old Tivos and the blinking green light issue they can develop?

Someone sent me one that is exhibiting the issue, and I've been taking reading around the board and comparing them to a known good Series 3 Tivo motherboard I have, and so far the only different I can find is a difference in diode reading on a voltage regulator. However when I swap over the voltage regulator from the good Tivo to bad Tivo, it shows the diode readings of the original component, so something else is causing the issue

Power supply is good so I know it's not that....

                  hi,
                  I've a weird problema with this laptop tha t mount a BDL50 LA-D704P rev:1.0 mainboard.
If I attach powerthe led near power connector doesn't light on and just sometimes its visible a periodic spike of 0,04A for a second next 0A again.
There is nothing burnt and if I test the voltage at PQ202 main mosfet I get 19V but on the exit of it there is nothing.
So without desolder it I just bypassed PQ202 putting 19V directly on PQ203 and alls works fine.
So I desoldered PQ202 that looked to be good with tester but I changed it anyway with a new one.
                  It doesnt'...
