    D915GAG RAM issue

My friends computer has an issue where he installed 2x 1GB ram chips and another 2x 512MB ram chips, totalling 3GB... only problem is that it displays only 2.37GB is installed. Even after a BIOS update the issue is still there.
The motherboard is an Intel D915GAG and the OS is Windows 7 64 bit. If I'm not mistaken the CPU is an Intel P4 3.2GHz... maybe a 640?

What's the problem here? I'm stumped.

    Thanks.

Displays 2.37gb where? BIOS setup? In Windows?

Integrated video will take away some ram...but not that much. Are all the slots working? If there is a dead slot or bad dimm, 2.37 could easily be 2.5 less some for video...just a thought.

it has an external pcie graphics card and it's the bios that displays 2.37GB.

        Re: D915GAG RAM issue

Ah, ok. The images I googled of D915GAG didn't have a PCI Express slot. I probably pulled up a related board and didn't bother checking it closely.

The 915 chipset is pre-memory remapping. I think Intel first supported that feature with the ICH7. So, the total addressable space the chipset can use is 4GB. (Much like a 32-bit OS can only use 4GB addressable space, but this is a chipset limitation, not an OS limitation.)

See p. 55 of the technical spec for more info:

MS KB article (Vista, but still relevant to Win7):
        http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605

How much memory does the video card have? If it's a 1GB card for instance, that puts a huge dent into the 4GB addressable space. If it's less than that, it's much less likely that it would be reserving that much memory for system functions. Futhermore, I'd expect the BIOS to show the installed memory. It's the OS that wouldn't be able to use the reserved memory. The fact that it's the BIOS screen, and not Windows reporting the discrepancy is strongly pointing to some sort of incompatibility or malfunction. I'd try swapping the memory around different modules, different slots, try one at a time, etc. to see if you can isolate the problem somewhat - bad slot, bad memory, partially incompatible memory, etc. I have seen boards with bad memory controllers that do all sorts of weird things, so that's a possibility too.

          Interesting.

That's a good point. Check at the BIOS screen how much ram it's counting.

Did you perhaps mix high and low density RAM?

Sure that system is x64 compatible?

I have my doubts with the 64 bit CPU bit, I will have to ask my friend again.

If Win7 64-bit is actually installed and says 64-bit OS in system properties, then it's definitely a 64-bit CPU.

                      Good day!
I have a customer's laptop — Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54 (EH5VF - LA-H501P). It has a display on the external monitor and it's working fine, but the issue is NO display on the internal screen. I already replaced the eDP cable and checked the LCD connector pins.

                      Here are the voltage readings:
                      • Input – 19V (stable)
                      • +LCDVDD – 3.3V briefly, then drops to 0V
                      • EDP_HPD – 3.3V briefly, then drops to 0V
                      • PCH_BKL_PWM – 2.2–5V briefly, then drops to 0V
                      • EC BKOFF# – 1.8V briefly, then drops to 0V
                      • PANEL_OD_EN – 0.3V

Is it possible that the EC chip is corrupted or damag...

Three 820-01700 32GB Logic Boards Same Issue: Won't Wake From Hibernate
                      by ugamazing
I have three identical-spec 820-01700 boards (2.6/32/512), and ALL THREE boards came to us with the same fault, from different sources: The boards don't wake from hibernation with the keyboard or lid, they ONLY wake when you press the power button. I understand this is a very minor issue, but the boards must be fixed!

We will of course begin with the obvious (checking lid signals), but I couldn't help but notice these three boards were all 32GB variants. Has anyone noticed an issue relating to these 32GB boards in particular? I of course don't think it's a RAM issue, but it's bizarre...

I asking for help on some new WSON8 256MB chips. Please share your experience. I faced error on some new chips on read, erase, write with different programmers. These new chips are not exist in any programmers database. (GD25B256D, XM25RH256, W25Q256JV so on.)

Just archiving everything related to bumpgate since most stuff has disappeared from Google. Maybe people will finally take the time to read some of it and stop shouting "reflow gpu" at every occasion but rather try to understand what the real issue is…

                      I have a lenovo Legion pro 5 16ACH6H with AMD RYZEN 7 5800H and RTX3070,.

A weird issue has troubled me. If i power on off the laptop 20 times then only power LED will lit but no fan spin no display. At this stage gpu, vram. DDR voltage. 5v 3.3v 1.8v and the rest are present and cpu core is stuck at 0.84v.

And sometimes lets say the 21st time it will boot perfectly and there is image and everything is working perfectly and at this stage i see cpu core...
