Re: in a ups near you?
This battery was most likely to have not been charged within 3 months.
I am also aware of a malpractice with lead-acid batteries in new UPS units in stores, which are not charged every 3 months (especially in second-hand ones). This can lead to the battery becoming sulphated, which renders the battery useless, and more expensive for the consumer.
UPS units (and other equipment with lead-acid batteries) need to have a "sell-by" date (if they are in their box and cannot be recharged without the need to open the box).
Also, I recommend that the manufacturers of UPS units and other equipment with lead-acid batteries provide a recharging port on the box, so the batteries inside them can be recharged without the need to open the whole box.My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.
