Are you sure it can measure ESR? Because according to the website\manual it's not an ESR meter, it only measures capacitance from 10 and 10,000 uF ranges.

I've attached the manual, it seems that rolling numbers indicate a shorted capacitor OR you have the ranage setting too low.

What is the value of the capacitor you are testing? And is it bulging\leaking etc or not?

      jumptec 07008-0000 SBC bios failure
      by eurotronix
I have posted elsewhere but I thought it prudent to start a new thread with the board name in the title bar.
I have an old Jumptec 07008-0000 with a 486 AMD processor and its bios clock chip needed to be replaced recently. consequently the date time etc is all fresh and needs to be defaulted at least to allow access to the system on board.
The problem is the bios is OEM password protected and nothing works. I have even read the bios flash IC in a hex reader to see if there was anything standing out, 4 hours later and still non the wiser.
The bios version is PISBR214 manufacture...

Hard drives with oxidized HDA contacts
      by Per Hansson
Was reading the thread "<plays taps> 500GB bites the dust..."
There it was mentioned that oxidation of the HDA contacts on the PCB is a common mode of failure on modern hard drives.
As I had never heard of this before I went through my pile of dead drives.
They have already had all data recovered and are just in storage before being destroyed permanently as I don't want to risk customers data being adrift...

One drive in particular stood out, a Samsung Spinpoint F1 1TB model HD103UJ
But there where more drives like a HD501LJ and several...

HP DV5-1131en boot issue - boot order is all 0000!
      by Dan81
Just got this free DV5-1131en. Can see why.

On boot, it will get stuck on a black screen with no cursor or anything:

All data seems to be intact in BIOS:

(disregard the P8400, it replaces the T3200 it originally had)

Going into boot order, I am met with garbled characters:

Pressing F9 to load setup defaults will turn the text into a bunch of zeroes:

This occurs even if there is NO DVD or HDD attached.

      Any ideas what can...

IPv6 ICMP packets showing up in firewall log.
      by Spork Schivago
      Hello,

I have a stupid cable modem from Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable). I have limited options for configuring the built-in firewall. I have, under the WAN-TO-LAN section, ICMP blocked for IPv4 and IPv6.

On my Linux box, I see a ton of these messages:
      Code:
      [ 678.503434] SFW2-INext-DROP-DEFLT IN=enp5s0 OUT= MAC=33:33:00:00:00:fb:00:11:24:c5:31:4e:86:dd SRC=fe80:0000:0000:0000:0211:24ff:fec5:314e DST=ff02:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:00fb LEN=72 TC=0 HOPLIMIT=1 FLOWLBL=0 OPT ( ) PROTO=ICMPv6 TYPE=131 CODE=0
      and a few of these:
      Code:

the start sequence is correct, it reaches 320ma and then drops to 10ma
checking the card I didn't find any shorts

Reading the codes via huart gives me the following errors:
