Could I replace 2.5v 820uf fake polymers with Sanyo WG 6.3v 1000uf? They are both 8mm in width.

Edit: there are some 4v 560uf too.

Fake polymers? Specifics and pics please.

Up or down in uF within 20% is -usually- okay. Depends on circuit. I tend to prefer a higher value.

Up in voltage is not a problem.

I would agree with Toasty for larger "filter" caps. Just be careful when you are looking at smaller caps < 500uf and especially < 250uf. Sometimes these are used in conjunction with a crystal oscillator and really need to be the exact value (at least in uf, but going up in voltage is okay) for the circuits to work properly.

If the cap is close to a crystal or crystal oscillator circuit (small silver or chrome cans) I always use the exact same value to make sure there are no problems.

This is both on motherboards, video boards, and LCD monitor video boards. Power supplies and other "filter" areas are much less picky.

I also do one other thing different when replacing power supply caps. Sometimes I can physically fit a smaller number of larger valued caps in a circuit, like 3 * 2200 uf or 3300 uf caps where five or six 1000uf caps would go. You just have to make sure you know what circuits the caps are on.

I think that's a good thing to do, however I always add a smaller cap (470uf or 220uf) when I do that to help ease away the smaller ripples that the bigger ones miss.

It has more to do with my stock on hand and what seems right for the area involved and the circuit.

        Huch?
Capacitors used in crystal oscillators are in the range of 5 to 30pF. Thats small ceramic capacitors, these also come with closer tolerances.
Electrolytics never ae used as part of an oscillator circuit, only for power supply bypassing, where their value isnt so critical (after all, with +-20% tolerance, it cannot be).

          Fake polymers?
          by xnRS
          Hey everyone

So many things happend this year, and because of that - only place where i could buy caps is Aliexpress

I won't consider buying electrolytics from ali(or if there is a good trusted seller, than i would buy), but i think polys will be good

Are polys could be easily faked ? Especially FP12K Caps from Nichicon/Fujitsu(not FP5K, FP12K), their shrink is more chrome'ish compared to other caps, so maybe anyone knows anything about it?

Replacing Fake Sanyo's in a SMPS
          by jayjr1105
I have a cheap chinese T12 soldering station that I really like and use a lot. It has (clearly) fake Sanyo WG caps (1000uf 35v) on the secondary side that I'd like to replace with authentic caps. What should I use?

They are 10mm width but could probably squeeze in 12mm caps and they are super short for a 1000uf 35v cap but I could probably fit 30mm max height.

It also has an unpopulated spot so I assume 3 good ones can make up for two. I have some KZE 35v 680uf. Even with three would I be okay on capacitance?...

          Fake magsafe 2 charger
          by paparazzo79
Hi guys.I bought Macbook Pro mid 2014 15 inch model which did not came with charger.
I got new charger but judging by the specs seems it is fake one.Sadly I live in Bosnia and genuine charger is rare to find.
what to do?Should I use the fake one?
          Will it damage the macbook?...

          Fake Caps in Xbox 360
          by Galraedia
I decided to take one of the Rubycon capacitors out of a phat Xbox 360 with a Zephyr motherboard and noticed that all the Rubycon capacitors near the CPU were fake. The capacitors in question are Rubycon MFZ 680uf 6.3V and they all have a bullseye bottom, something not found in genuine Rubycon capacitors. None of them were leaking, they all have the K top, and the system has never been opened before. It appears Microsoft was using fake capacitors in the Xbox 360, or the Chinese facility where the console was manufactured in was using them and passing them off a genuine. Just thought I'd share...

Mystery 80s Sanyo cap - perhaps polymer?
          by cj_reha
Hey all I've been working on a 1984 Sanyo 27" color TV which had a smattering of bad caps in the video switching circuit. I found this oddball little 1uF 25V cap which looks to me like an early polymer, but I can't find concrete info proving it. I know Sanyo was a big player in early polymer cap development and this is the time period where they were just getting on the market, so I'm wondering if anyone has crusty old datasheets that could help identify it and determine if my suspicions are right? It has the same epoxy end seal and font/formatting as some old stock Os-Cons I've got laying...
