I'm doing a recap job. I measured three Rubycon 50v 33uf electrolytic capacitors and they all showed about 31uf of capacity on the MK-168 transistor tester (ESR meter) but no ESR reading at all. I then measured some brand new caps with ratings around these rubycons and the meter correctly gave both a capacitance AND an ESR readout. Any ideas?
ESR meter (MK-168) not showing ESR readout on certain capacitors?

Yes they are bad. I will check later to see what you should expect -
Re: ESR meter (MK-168) not showing ESR readout on certain capacitors?
Thanks. I rechecked them and it was user error. Haha. They were all measuring 31pf, not 31uf. They are REALLY bad. Because that "number" was so close to their rating, I guess my brain didn't register the pf versus the uf part of the reading. Duh! Lol. So I read that this meter won't display an ESR for capacitors below some range...like 100pf. Thanks again!Comment

by SimplebeansHey guys i just got myself a Macbook Pro A1989 820-00850-a 2018, the seller said they had spilt liquid over it and since then it has never turned on.
I am using a Apple 61W USB-C Power Adapter and USB-C Charge Cable and on my USB tester i can see when i plug into the power i get around 5.21V and stays at 0.24amps. I am currently testing disconnected from the battery and only plugged into the USB-C Charge Cable.
When opening the machine I was greeted with corrosion on, in and around, in particular the U3100 (USB-C PORT CONTROLLER XA) and U3200 (USB-C PORT CONTROLLER XB)... -
by chth96I read EBOOK of Testing Electronic Component and found that
"In order to test the small blue resin coated ceramic disk capacitor which has 104 50v specification,it is possible to test this small ceramic capacitor by making use of analogue meter.
Set to times 10Kohm that has 12v output from the probe to check disorder of ceramic capacitor.
It is not uncommon that testing result of digital capacitance meter is okay,But It show shorted reading when you check it with analogue meter."
Is it really possible to test small ceramic disc capacitor with analogue...-

by ttmi100xGreetings everyone,
I have a HANNSG Hi221 monitor that exhibits two seconds to black issues (backlight goes off, display is still on as confirmed by shining a flashlight on it) with some additional oddities...
The monitor failed on me with a standard "2 seconds to black" some time ago prompting me to initially replace most of the electrolytic capacitors (some of them were bulging/leaking).
Things kinda sorta worked for a night, then the problem returned along with some flickering and "buzzing" noises.
Upon closer inspection...6 Photos-

by dragon3xHi, I have some 32 bits computer motherboards that need repair, as they fail to
power on.
Here are some examples :
(N.B. "capacitors" indicated here are electrolytic capacitors located in the onboard
switching supply area).
(N.B. #2 : I could not find a 3300 microF aluminum-polymer with a higher voltage
than 6.3 V.)
1 - Motherboard #1 : this is an Asrock K7VT2 (socket A) that still works well. To put it on test
I replaced capacitors with aluminum-polymer.

by gbooneHi, I was given this laptop by my uncle who said:
- It would occasionally shutdown if not plugged in
- battery had been replaced
- touchbar would "strobe"
After fully charging the battery, with bluetooth disabled, no LAN cable and only wifi enabled, the laptop stayed on (screen on) for about 6-8 hours. Allowing screen to turn off while not in use, and it went for over a day.
BUT
When powered off, it would at some point have a... - Loading...
