    CapXon "opened can"

    Hi all,

I took open a CapXon from a crappy "TT 300W" power supply. I decided to replace the two on the board as they were a bit warm even after the power was unplugged.

The cap pictured was a 330uF 200WV, soldered on the primary side.

Apart from the off-colour innards, there's a very distinct and disgusting smell, evident only upon close "whiffing".

Not to mention they were only measuring ~242uF. Since I don't have an ESR meter, and based on other's experiences, i can safely conclude that they are crap capacitors.

they all smell pretty bad. look for dryness and maybe burn marks on paper. although its not such a great test, can only spot the really shit ones that way.

      Re: CapXon "opened can"

I have a bunch of those "TT" brand 400W PSUs here. They are made by DEER, but I can see that yours came with Capxon caps on the primary inputs side. I have "Saturn" logo branded 470uf 200V caps in mine. I've recapped my secondary side of the PSU with Panasonics, Hitanos and Sanyos. I use my crappy "TT" (thermaltake imitation) branded PSU for testing purposes only.

Otherwise, nice find BlakeW with the Capxon capacitor.

      Thanks.

Heh, the paper inside certainly doesn't look healthy... and btw apologies for the image quality, that's the closest i could get before the poor focusing of my camera made it blurry =/

EDIT: I just got the roll out of the can, and it looks like it's held together by sticky tape

        will post more pics tomorrow.

LG 65UQ8000AUB no backlight burning smell
          by howardc64
Only 3 years old. Owner said backlight went out and burning smell. Didn't bother plugging in to check if had power LED. Just opened the TV rear and found shorted bridge rectifier diode on the backlight circuit on the PSU. SF26G (400V 2A super fast recovery rectifier link ) diode replace with SF26 (what I had on hand) Google AI said G = Green Components.

Burn looked pretty bad on the board but just was blackened carbon coating material. Scraped and cleaned off quite well and clean solder pad for the new diode.

Carver CM-1090 - Power relay clicking on & off, then fuse blown after 20-30 seconds of power cycling.
          by beetle1303
I gotten a Carver CM-1090 amplifier from a friend who has kept it in storage for decades. Opened it up, thick layer of dust cumulated everywhere. Vacuumed it semi-cleaned, and blown off as much as possible the remaining dust. This is a 220V version.

On initial powered up with nothing connected - it works with all the lights and button indicator lit up as pressed, etc. I then powered off, connected a CD player into the CD RCA input and powered it on. It seemed to work for a short while and when I turned the volume up and down to see the the VUs works, the power started to clicked off...

KingWin ABT-650MM 650 Watt ATX PSU [PCB: SW8835REV:A]
          by momaka
For today's thread, I have a KingWin ABT-650MM ATX PSU. Official web page with the PSU specs is still up and can be found here:
          http://www.rmac.kingwin.com/products.../abt_650MM.asp

I just can't help it when I see a broken / for parts PSU on eBay that's listed for cheap and looks at least somewhat interesting. Well, OK, I won't lie – on the outside, this PSU looks anything but interesting. It's a plain gray box with colorful “spaghetti cables”.

What mostly drew me into buying it is its 2x PCI-E power connectors...

monowheel repair,Is the diode the problem?
          by NicRac
Hello everybody☺️ I am glad to be here and looking forward to a good discussion.

First of all, I am new here. Therefore I will shortly introduce myself.
I am Nico and currently I study Physics.
In my freetime I like to build and repair stuff. Especially big battery's.

A few years ago I got myself an electric unicycle, monowheel or however you call that.
The battery bms was broken so I replaced and resolder that. Nothing big.
I used this thing for some years and had a lot of fun. Unfortunately I used it last time in heavy rain. Usually everything...

HP OMEN 15-ax204ns burnt component on the board
          by Jag013
          Good afternoon everyone,
First of all, I’d like to apologize for my level of English.

I have an HP OMEN 15-ax204ns laptop, purchased in 2018, with the following specifications:
          • Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz
          • 4.00 + 4.00 GB RAM
          • 1TB hard drive
          • Product ID: 00325-96088-89605-AAOEM
          • Operating system: Windows 10 64-bit

It is in its original state, with no hardware modifications except for the battery, which had swollen and was replaced with a compatible one.

For three or four months, I used the new battery without any issues, but...
