    Picking long life capacitor replacements?

to pick some good quality capacitors for long lifetime do i just go to mouser, rs etc and select the capacitance and voltage then sort by the highest number of hours and pick the caps that have the highest number of lifetime hours?

    almost.
you need to know the difference between regular, low and ultra-low esr and when to use each type
in most cases you can just throw ultra-low esr caps in, but there are some situations where that wont work.

Ok cool, noticed that wurth brand caps seem to be rated way higher than other caps for lifetime

Picking one that is a good amount above requirement voltage (say 25v for 12v instead of 16v) increases life too, but there is more information involved to really determine if this works, and it's not just voltage, probably ripple too, but I'm not sure about uF

From what i read if selecting a higher voltage cap and the cap never reaches its rated voltage then something happens to it where it cant be reformed and looses capacitance?

You don't want the cap to actually hit its rated voltage. There should be some margin.

I've heard that caps will fail faster if you run them too far below their rated voltage, but I haven't ever found any official documentation to confirm or deny that.

              Cyberpower 1500AVR UPS repair
              by quickname
I'd like to start out by thanking this forum for providing the info to be able to repair my 15 year old CP1500AVRLCD UPS. Here is all the info I gathered during my trouble-shooting and re-capping.

Like clockwork, I've had to replace the SLA batteries every 4 years. It was about that time and the UPS was acting like it needed new batteries... randomly shutting off with AC present, not being able to charge fully, and poor runtime when AC was removed. So, I replaced the batteries but noticed that it was not charging properly.

I decided to verify that the batteries were...

              HP Pavilion 14-ce0505sa, 5 long 3 short, no display. g7a-2g da0g7ambd1
              by szreder6
              Hello guys,
I have a problem with my laptop as in the title, black screen, capslock displays error code 5 long 3 short, no voltage on the coils above the CPU, before removing the drive I had 0.8v there, power led flashed 5x long and the battery would not charge (current jumped from 0.5a to 2.8a), now on the power led I have a steady white light or orange when the battery is connected.
              What I did:
              - Laptop was not detecting ram, loose pins on ram slot, error 3.2 disappeared, ram working tested in another laptop

As far as I know the laptop was in another service center...

              Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

              Picking caps for Antec SU-380
              by ajdrenter
In my search for a proper 5v heavy ATX power supply, I selected an old Antec SU-380 that I've had in storage for a long time. Opening the power supply reveals a couple bulged capacitors. I removed all the caps and made a map for myself. I found the datasheet for the PCE TUR series in this thread:
              https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=14159
It says these are general purpose, so I assume I can replace them with any general purpose capacitors, but I don't really know anything about power supply circuits or reading capacitor datasheets. Despite this, I've been shopping for replacements:...

              Gemcon capacitor replacements?
              by slybunda
taken from my thread about car alarm siren here: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...rm-siren-issue

there are 2 caps which im looking to get replacements for.
              Branded as Gemcon
              single 100uf 16v 6.5mm x 11.5mm
              single 100uf 50v 8mm x 11.5mm
              lead spacing is around 3mm

there is space for 16mm tall caps

rs components is good place for me to go since its close by, what replacements do you suggest and do these need to be low esr?
              the caps have...
