    Ceramic capacitor ID - SD 6KV O69

I've got a capacitor very close to an inverter transformer that got a little... TOO close. It is marked:
    SD
    6KV
    O69
The O looks like it's a symbol, not a letter or number; I tried taking a picture but the text is simply too small to focus.

I figure it's a ceramic 6kV capacitor, and I would think 6.9pF, but I've not been able to find any rated like that - 6.8pF is the closest I get.

Am I on the right track?

Measure any of the other blue ones and you'll get the approximate value. All four should have the same value.

Ahh, if I only had an ESR meter - it's been on my list for some time but I'm afraid I don't have one good enough to get a value other than "good" or "bad" (homemade). Thanks for the thought, though! (maybe I'll have a look at the test equipment forum and see what I find...)

        More likely to be 5D 6KV = 5PF 6000v.
They are ballast caps, you can use 4.7pf 6000v

Ahh, now that you mention it, that "S" did look a bit suspicious! I'm debating now whether to get replacements for all 20 of them (37" TV). The others look OK to me.

          Thank you!

You can check to see if it has any resistance reading, the cap should read open circuit, especially the cap in high voltage like these ballast caps. Also note that the meter does not put out enough high voltage to find out the cap will breakdown in the high voltage circuits or not, it may test out OK with the meter.
One of the TV I repaired, I replace them all since I do want to take a chance of reparing it twice.
You can see if the body has slight brownish color, that will tell you it is going bad or bad.

Hmm, I wish I had de-soldered the capacitor last night before ordering all of them! It seems that it was neither an S nor a 5 but indeed an 8 I guess I need to learn more patience.
I guess now I have two questions:
What value is an 8D capacitor, and what can I do with 25 of the other type?

I did also measure the two capacitors, and both seem to be open circuits at the 20megohm range on my old Fluke 8010A meter.

                8D is 8pF.

                  thanks budm,

I ended up buying a replacement inverter board rather than the caps to recap (hey, it was cheaper)
... unfortunately the problem persists. I'll start a new post in the troubleshooting forum.
