Re: Sanyo Vs RubyCon
They are both excellent quality, either one won't give you any trouble. When buying, make sure you get them from a reputable source, I've heard a lot of horror stories about Sanyo fakes lately.<--- Badcaps.net Founder

Re: Sanyo Vs RubyCon
Just an unrelated curiosity, but Nichicon HD and Nippon Chemi-con KZE have nearly identical specs for most caps, e.g. 1200/16 has an ESR of 22 mohms, ripple current rating of 2150 mA and endurance of 4000 hours.
They're so close that one could conjecture that they're made in the same factory and badged differently. Between the two, I usually prefer the lacquer-coated bare-aluminium Nichicon HDs because they look cool, but they're not always readily available in useful values - in which case they can be substituted by KZEs of the same value.Comment

Re: Sanyo Vs RubyCon
The only KZE's i can get are in 12.5mm.
If only i can get MBZ, ZL, YZG in 3300uf 10mm i'll be Rubycon fanboy.
Sanyo offer a complete choice for me (WX, WG). So you can call me Sanyo fanboy
Though, my favorite by their great spec and longevity (in order) are:
-Sanyo WG
-Nichicon HE
-Chemicon LXZ
-Chemicon KY
-Rubycon ZL
-Rubycon MBZ
-Panasonic FC
Others that i dont like, like PW, KZE, YXG, FJ, etc is because their 12,5mm dia. or short longevity. So, all my opinion is very subjective, not scientific measurement, nor i have enough time to do lots of experiments. I would trust opinion from pro's like linuxguru, pete, davmax, gonzo, n others coz they really know what they say.days are so short when you actually do something..Comment

Re: Sanyo Vs RubyCon
Thanks for the compliment. BTW, there are some useful values I've used in PW, KZE, YXG and FJ in 10 mm:
PW - 1000/10
KZE - 1200/16
YXG - 1500/10
FJ - 1800/16
The FJ is very small for 1800/16, so I'm reluctant to use it in a PSU unless nothing else will fit (usually 1U/2U PSUs, or those funky Channel-Wells found in Shuttle SFFs).
In addition to your list, I'll also add Rubycon YXF, Chemicon LXA/LXF/LXJ, Nichicon PL/PJ/PM/PS and HD as being excellent (in some cases, older) series.Comment

Re: Sanyo Vs RubyCon
Is it just the HM and HN series you have to watch out for, or are all Nichicon caps prone to failing now? My Athlon 1.2GHz machine (old by today's standards, I know) is full of Nichicon caps, but they're not HM or HN. I think they're HD.You know there's something wrong when you open your PC and it has vented Rubycons...Comment

Re: Sanyo Vs RubyCon
i wouldnt worry about it
anyway the best procedure on any machine is do a dust removal periodically and check the caps also and then any other prob like crashing etc asses it immediately and try to determine what is going on whether caps, ram, psu, hdd etc....Comment

by momakaNormally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

by DXseekerMOHello everyone!
Recently I've noticed that some ShopJimmy backlight strips don't have double-sided tape installed upon them when an application calls for it, and I must purchase the tape separately. In a recent chat conversation with a customer service agent I told them if this tape wasn't applied when it was called for I would begin to consider ordering my backlight strips elsewhere. It looks like this time may have come.
I recently got a TCL 65S4 with bad backlights. After looking at the SJ listing here: https://www.shopjimmy.com/tcl-jl-d65...365as-m-led-ba...Yes0%1All backlight strips are the same quality0%1No0%0 -
by momakaAaaaand… we have more retro-PC nostalgia repairs again.
This time it's with a XFX GeForce 6800 XT AGP video card. The XFX model number is PV-T42K-UDE3.
As with many early XFX cards, crap caps are the main issue here. The first one I bought and recapped was back in 2017. I've been meaning to post about it for a long time, but never got around to it due to the card needing a better heatsink/cooler to test it fully with the recap (more on that later on.) In the meantime, I acquired a 2nd one of these cards not too long ago (February.) Not like this makes any difference. Both... -
by szreder6Hello guys,
I have a problem with my laptop as in the title, black screen, capslock displays error code 5 long 3 short, no voltage on the coils above the CPU, before removing the drive I had 0.8v there, power led flashed 5x long and the battery would not charge (current jumped from 0.5a to 2.8a), now on the power led I have a steady white light or orange when the battery is connected.
What I did:
- Laptop was not detecting ram, loose pins on ram slot, error 3.2 disappeared, ram working tested in another laptop
As far as I know the laptop was in another service center...1 Photo -
by cj_rehaHey all
I've been working on a 1984 Sanyo 27" color TV which had a smattering of bad caps in the video switching circuit. I found this oddball little 1uF 25V cap which looks to me like an early polymer, but I can't find concrete info proving it. I know Sanyo was a big player in early polymer cap development and this is the time period where they were just getting on the market, so I'm wondering if anyone has crusty old datasheets that could help identify it and determine if my suspicions are right? It has the same epoxy end seal and font/formatting as some old stock Os-Cons I've got laying...
