    Sanyo Vs RubyCon

Which caps are better and have long life ?

    Re: Sanyo Vs RubyCon

They are both excellent quality, either one won't give you any trouble. When buying, make sure you get them from a reputable source, I've heard a lot of horror stories about Sanyo fakes lately.

Avoid Nichicon HM and HN series caps, they're prone to failure.

Just an unrelated curiosity, but Nichicon HD and Nippon Chemi-con KZE have nearly identical specs for most caps, e.g. 1200/16 has an ESR of 22 mohms, ripple current rating of 2150 mA and endurance of 4000 hours.

They're so close that one could conjecture that they're made in the same factory and badged differently. Between the two, I usually prefer the lacquer-coated bare-aluminium Nichicon HDs because they look cool, but they're not always readily available in useful values - in which case they can be substituted by KZEs of the same value.

                Re: Sanyo Vs RubyCon

The only KZE's i can get are in 12.5mm.
If only i can get MBZ, ZL, YZG in 3300uf 10mm i'll be Rubycon fanboy.
Sanyo offer a complete choice for me (WX, WG). So you can call me Sanyo fanboy

Though, my favorite by their great spec and longevity (in order) are:
                -Sanyo WG
                -Nichicon HE
                -Chemicon LXZ
                -Chemicon KY
                -Rubycon ZL
                -Rubycon MBZ
                -Panasonic FC

Others that i dont like, like PW, KZE, YXG, FJ, etc is because their 12,5mm dia. or short longevity. So, all my opinion is very subjective, not scientific measurement, nor i have enough time to do lots of experiments. I would trust opinion from pro's like linuxguru, pete, davmax, gonzo, n others coz they really know what they say.

                  Re: Sanyo Vs RubyCon

Thanks for the compliment. BTW, there are some useful values I've used in PW, KZE, YXG and FJ in 10 mm:

                  PW - 1000/10
                  KZE - 1200/16
                  YXG - 1500/10
                  FJ - 1800/16

The FJ is very small for 1800/16, so I'm reluctant to use it in a PSU unless nothing else will fit (usually 1U/2U PSUs, or those funky Channel-Wells found in Shuttle SFFs).

In addition to your list, I'll also add Rubycon YXF, Chemicon LXA/LXF/LXJ, Nichicon PL/PJ/PM/PS and HD as being excellent (in some cases, older) series.

                      Re: Sanyo Vs RubyCon

Is it just the HM and HN series you have to watch out for, or are all Nichicon caps prone to failing now? My Athlon 1.2GHz machine (old by today's standards, I know) is full of Nichicon caps, but they're not HM or HN. I think they're HD.

                        i wouldnt worry about it
anyway the best procedure on any machine is do a dust removal periodically and check the caps also and then any other prob like crashing etc asses it immediately and try to determine what is going on whether caps, ram, psu, hdd etc....

how about United Chemicon KZG and sanyo SPEC capacitors? My MSI (K8N Diamond Plus) motherboard uses these 2 brand of capacitors.
