    need help for identifying red polymer capacitor on 8600gt

    I want to identify red polymer capacitors shown on below linked screen
    what is manufacturer and model number,capacitance of these polymer cap?
    and What stand for those of 7x3b 851,7x2 821,781 561, 7x3b 331 character ?
    and If I have to replace these polymer capacitor,what capacitor should I use for a replacement?
    Any replies would be appreciated.

    They're Functional Polymer capacitors or FP-CAP ... made by Nichicon.

    The exact series is hard to tell but can be determined by the code under the logo, that 7x3b or 7x2 and so on. Each series has a different pattern.

    The voltage rating is the last number... you have there 16v, 25v and 4v capacitors.

    The capacity value is the number above... you calculate the value by removing the last digit and adding as many zeroes as the last number says... ex 821 means 82 x 10^1 = 820 uF , 331 = 33 x 10^1 = 330 uF etc ... so you have there 330uF, 560uF, 820uF.

    Anyway, these are solid, good capacitors, from a brand name, they shouldn't cause you any problems and they have very good technical specifications.

    Anyway, if you ask, I guess I should answer... good replacements would be Nichicon R7, L8, LF , UCC PS and PSC .... ex for 330uF 16v:

      Are they Nichicon? Or Fujitsu? I suspect the latter. Also, it looks to me like there is a decimal point between the "2" and the "5" on several caps, so I suspect they are 2.5V rather than 25V.

      The characters next to the "F" logo are probably date or lot codes. Noting that the first character in each is a "7", I'm going to guess either that the caps were made in 2007, or that they came from the same factory. The "746" on those two Samsung chips suggests a date code of Week 46 of Year 2007.

      I vaguely recall Fujitsu not being highly regarded here on BadCaps - threads I would have seen in the 2005-2007 timeframe. But those UCC and Nichicon suggested by mariushm are good. My guess is that folks like Rubycon, UCC and Nichicon are moving away from electrolytics toward polymer for ultra-low impedance capacitors. If I recall correctly from the late 80s, one of the (if not simply the) pioneers in polymer caps was Marcon, which was bought by Nippon Chemicon (parent of United Chemicon).

        Looks like, as mariushm posted, the series is the FP series. So you should be able to search for the Fujitsu FP series to get the impedance and ripple current ratings, so as to get a good cross-match with a UCC or Nichicon part.

          1998 Oct. The company name changed to FUJITSU MEDIA DEVICES (SUZHOU) LTD.
          2003 May Starting manufacturing of Aluminum Functional Polymer Capacitors(FPCAP)
          2009 Apr. The company name changed to FPCAP ELECTRONICS (SUZHOU) CO., LTD.

          As far as I know, they're the same thing.

          The stylized F is from Fujitsu, but I think it's only on old production batches of capacitors.

          You can see the style of the datasheets is almost identical.

          I called them Nichicon because Nichicon at the very least distributes them and publishes datasheets where you have Nichicon Corp / FPCAP in the footer... they have the catalogue on their page: http://www.nichicon.co.jp/english/pr...p_catalog.html
          They probably have some shares in the company like they have with Taicon.

          ps. You're spot on about some capacitors being 2.5v and not 25v, i didn't see the dot.

            2008 OCT. Nichicon reaches a basic agreement to purchase the conductive polymer aluminum solid electrolytic capacitor business of FUJITSU MEDIA DEVICES LTD

            FPCAP series are manufactured by Nichicon now.

              Thanks very much for your information. It resolve almost all of my doubts.
              but I have a trivial question. Is it possible to use electrolytic capacitor for the replacement of Polymer capacitor?(It is due to awful difficulties of locating retail store where deal with high grade Polymer capacitor in korea.)

              And Should I choose capacitors within range of ESR and rated ripple current value in the FP-CAP's datasheet(lower ESR and higher ripple current value)?
              I heard from some korean who have worked in the domain of comp mainboard repair for many years that the factor of ESR and ripple current usually influence only capacitor's life . Even if You use relatively lower grade capacitor than its designated high grade capacitor for replacement, it would not damage or any harm on any adjacent IC components on PCB.It only to short-lived comparing to designated capacitor.
              Is his reply really a truth? Is it really do any harm at all but lifespan of capacitor to use relatively lower grade capacitor for replacement?

                Why do you want to replace them to begin with?
                Solid Polymer caps are very reliable, especially compared to electrolytic capacitors when installed in hot and noisy (electrically noisy) areas...

                You may be able to replace them with electrolytic capacitors but it will depend on how wide margins the circuit you are modifying has.
                You would need to use the lowest ESR series available, like Nichicon HZ
                But they are still only rated for half the ripple rating and double the ESR in the best of cases, hardly a good match...
