• Re: How can I desolder chock coil in PGA370 socket mainboard

Thank you very much all of reply!
I saw youtube video which created by dicky96,Although I'm really useless at hearing english,I understand to a certain degree How to desolder and recap with basic soldering tools.
I have used dressmaker Pin for making hole in solder pad.

But I always place soldering iron to opposite side of PCB because solder pad is too small for me to place soldering iron and dressmaker Pin together..

And As for Pyramid-5 mainboard,I have tried to replace all...

Thank you very much for all of your detailed reply which is a great help to me!
Of course I use BC3 soldering tip when I desolder or solder capacitor on mainboard.

But In this case of small solder pad which surrounded by several thin pattern, I firstly tried to desolder it with BC3 soldering tip, but its(BC3) tip size is too large, I think that As My soldering skill is still rudimentary, there would be high possible to damage nearby thin pattern with this BC3 large tip, So I changed soldering...

I noticed that a small capacitor which foil was a little worn out. So I replace this capacitor and It has small solder pad and surrounded by too many pattern So I use BC1 solder tip in order to desoldering it,I set target temperature to 310 ℃. But It always takes at least more than 15 minute for me in order to insert a cap into solder pad. Because I don't have desoldering needle and don't have sufficient experience for any desoldering tool..It seems that small solder pad cannot tolerate 310 ℃ temperature that...

I test all of my CPU and CMOS battery, pc100 RAM in other mainboard, confirmed that It surely works. So I installed these CPU,battery,PC100 RAM which I just have tested in other mainboard.
this mainboard(PYRAMID-5) doesn't have connector for PC speaker it only has led and power switch.(I only has PCB of front panel. I lost pin connector and currently I don't have it)

Frankly speaking this mainboard start to boot as soon as I connect PSU 20 pin connector to mainboard When I turn on PSU button....

When I was a high school student, It was my wish to complete understand any book which written in english. So I relatively put an effort into English than other subjects. But I failed to go to university owing to my SAT scores is very low...(yes,,I really hate to study for any kind of exam,And it is tremendous tragedy for me to be born in south korea where have been decided one's social position with SAT scores)So I was decided to go vocational technology school. But its quality of education is terribly crap!...

I'm sorry for too late reply..
I persuaded my mother to become Electronics Repair Technician and said to her that It is impossible to work in Electronics Repair field without any good soldering tools. and it seems that She allowed me to become Electronics Repair Technician.
So I ordered BC1,BCM2,BC3,JL02 soldering tip and T12 station of below link.

and I finally received this T12 station yesterday!
I tested it and found that it always...

I'm sorry for making a mistake in measuring choke coil.I don't have enough practical eletronic knowledge..So I thought that Any choke coil on the mainboard has both solder joint of possitive and negative.. I did voltage test on solder joint of chock coil and chassis of ps/2 port and it display 1.96-2.00v.
In the same way,I also did voltage test on small chock coil which located next to 20 pin power connector and It display 5.02v.
And I always test CPU in other normal working mainboard before I test problematic...

I take a close look at blue capacitors and It seems that there is trace of sticky gunk which came from capacitor.
I think this capacitor need to be replaced.
By the way Is it alright to replace this 6.3v 1500uf with 10v 1200uf or 2200uf capacitor?

Thank you very much for your detailed reply!
I power on mainboard and did voltage test on solder joint of chock coil with digital multimeter and it display 14.4mV.

I didn't even think that you are top-class Electronics Engineers who has nearly 50 years experience. Frankly speaking I have been totally crazy for video game almost 20 years..I have neglected to get a job and put my whole life into video games.. It awfully ruined my 20s and 30s and totally destroyed any relationship with my friends..It...

I took off shrink sleeving and I took the picture of below screenshot.

And I also made a youtube videoclip which display specific symptoms
of mainboard
youtube videoclip
I did continuity test with multimeter and it seems that it is not open circuit between two solder joint of inductor coil.(03:30)
and It is impossible for me to hear any beep sound during booting test.

As we already pointed out, I have soldered solder joint of capacitor which located next to CPU socket,Because At first,I have take a closer look at all of capacitor and cannot found any bulging on any capacitor..So I doubted that black screen of no signal caused by Broken solder joint or any solder joint problem..

I have showed this picture of chock coil to korean retro mainboard enthusiast and they said that it is rare to burnt out chock coil in mainboard, and It means that most of my mainboard's pattern...

I have a PGA370 socket mainboard and it seems its Toroidal Choke Coils have been burnt.

when I power on this mainboard,CPU become get hot and keyboard bulb of Num,CAPs,SCROLL lights up but Monitor displayed black screen and no signal..

I tried to delsolder this Toroidal Choke Coils of 3.6uH(I doubt that written symbol of 3.6microhenry is correct or not..)But It is really impossible for me to desolder Toroidal Choke Coils with 20w or 30w soldering iron..

How can I desolder it from mainboard and Is it possible to desolder...

• Re: Is this polymer capacitor defective?

Thanks very much for your reply.I live in seoul city of South Korea.and I purchased second hands EP31-DS3L Motherboard about 3 years ago,and I suspect that this bulge was caused by 20pin+4pin 300w PSU which I have once used for approximately six months, because I don't have any spare 24pin+4pin PSU at that time.
It(EP31-DS3L Motherboard) is connected with 500w 24pin+4pin PSU presently.
There is some Low ESR electrolytic capacitor in my house(16v/1800uf and 16v/1000uf )
Is these bulged polymer capacitor can be replacable...

• Is this polymer capacitor defective?

I have Gigabyte EP31-DS3L board but recently it frequently have failed to boot(it show only black screen) so I have to push power button or PSU's power switch several time until It succeed to boot(until it show a post screen)
and even after It succeed to boot, It intermittently stop to work on windows and show dread BSOD screen or even it turn off itself without any BSOD screen.I tried it on spare PSU but PSU change doesn't fix this problem
I inspect this EP31 board visually and noticed that some polymar caps have bulged(this bulge leave inner and outermost circle on the top of polymer...

• Re: Is it OK to replace capacitor of low esr with non-low esr in PSU?

Thanks all for your advice!
I finally make out higher frequencies from PSU let computer device under stress and Someday, it may result in mainboard or hard drive failure. So I decide to place an order with online store for low esr capacitor, even though It require to purchase at least twenty quantity every only one specification capacitor....

• Re: Is it OK to replace capacitor of low esr with non-low esr in PSU?

The reason why I tried to replace low esr cap with general purpose cap is that the caps I bought is manufactured from Nichicon,I think any caps manufactured from Capxon is not high grade comparing to any cap from Nichicon albeit it claims true low esr caps.

Then Not able to filter higher frequencies as low esr caps do trigger no breakdown or do any harm at all any Computer device(mainboard, hard ,dvd drive )or any components in PSU itself, if I should replace with GP caps in PSU...

• Is it OK to replace capacitor of low esr with non-low esr in PSU?

I have used hec 300ar-t as PSU for old pentium4 build but Caps in mainboard start to bulge and have experienced something wrong on any OS circumstance(xp so on..).
I disassembled hec 300ar-t and look into whole caps soldered onto PCB,but can't spot any bulged caps
But I would like to replace highest 3300 uf capcacitor in hec 300ar-t because I have a successful experience in repairing retro video game console by replacing high uf capacitor in PSU unit with other one .
I went to Yongsan Electronics Market and drop in ETLAND building, bought 16v 3300uf KMG capacitor,Although...

They are Nichicon 6.3v 1000uf HM(M) capacitor(all of small 8mm caps are nichicon HM(M) )
And there is very small caps which is Teapo 10v 100uf(Dark ground-color + gray Lettering) ,it seems general capacitor.
But I I really have doubts about whether to recap low grade capacitors with higher one would really mend symptoms I have mentioned ....
