    Is this BADCAPS?

Thanks for this wonderful site. I am new here, and found out this site in another forum.

Here's the situation. The computer freezes after Windows was opened. I thought it was the Hard Disk which are damaged, but removing the Hard Disk and put it in another computer, it was successfully formated. Then I changed the memory and the CPU, but still the computer freeze.

So here I am, just askin if this problem is the cause of bad capacitor. Hope the image will give me your advice.

    Computer Model: Compaq EVO.

Numbers 1 and 3 definitely look swollen; can't tell with the other two. What brand are they?

Power Supplies should be boring: No loud noises, no bright flashes, and no bad smells.

They're definitely toast. Replace all the caps 1000uF and up, including ones that don't physically appear bad.

        Thanks for the reply.

I will remove the MOBO in the case and will shoot again in my digital camera to post again this. I think its better to show the caps top sideways shot.

          Re: Is this BADCAPS?

I got the culprit, and change all of 1000uf caps as Topcat have suggested. Now everything is back to normal and finished the burn in test of the computer for 3 days. I think the computer is good now.

Thanks to PeteS in CA and Topcat, and for this GREAT site.

Well, they're not something I'd want sitting around on any important piece of hardware, indeed. I would guess they're about as good (or bad) as OST.

Still, the Luxon caps may have an even worse reputation than they deserve due to their name being confused for Lelon, which is certainly a *bad* cap brand.

Can't imagine that a signature brand computer (Compaq-EVO) will used a motherboard with this kind of circuit component.

I can drag this out, or thru the mud,,,

My first was a compaq. All in one, I loved it, did things my new ones still can't do.
