Many of the datecode s are 15xx or 16xx, and why I have confidence is that I saw the shop appeared to be well managed with other surely legimate products and witnessed staff restocked some other Nichicon caps from what looked like a logoed bag.

    (I was traveling in Tokyo)

Not nessarily. I could see them putting $1000 into making them look legit and less than $0.01 into making them actually work well.

They look pretty genuine to me as well. I couldn't read the datecodes, though. Are they with very recent datecodes? If so, that is indeed a bit concerning. But perhaps they could also be a custom order??

I guess, use them at your own discretion. If it is for repair of personal electronics (or ones where a disruption in service will not be critical should these caps turn to be fake and fail), then you can give them a try and see what happens. If they really are fakes, then whoever made them looks like they put a pretty good amount of effort into them. So even if they are fake, then I doubt they would be that terrible.

they appear authentic, but the fakes are getting good these days. Considering Nichicon discontinued these years ago, finding them with current datecodes on them, I'd be very skeptical of their legitimacy if I wasn't getting them directly from nichicon or a very trust-worthy vendor.

they're fake unless there was some small specialty run made of them. where did you get them, and lets see the bungs.

Thanks for the answer. That makes total sense now, thanks.

I take it you're kinda shoving it into the molten solder down into the hole instead of on the top of the hole, flat against the board. Yeah?
Any 'ol brand of wick good so long as it's a major brand and is empregnated /w flux. Or is one brand/type better than another?

Can I ask why it's advised to use such an eensy weensy braid size, as opposed to the bigger stuff?

If you have no wick, then you can leave what's left of the old solder in and rock the cap in while holding the iron to the pad from the other side of the board, but it's much easier if the holes are already clear and you just plop in the replacement cap and solder it in (eventhough this takes more time), and there is also much less risk of ripping off the bottom part of the pad this way.

Yeah, I stupidly bought the RatShack stuff, it was all I could get my hands on here. It left a bit to be desired, but really I think more than anything it was my iron. It definitely pulled up solder. But I wouldn't say so much that it "wicked" it. Not that I'm singing its praises or anything, but it does look pretty tightly packed, then again I have nothing to compare it to. I know I had to crunch it and spread it pretty good, like Chinese finger cuffs, to get it to spread out. Seemed to work better that way, although I have now learned it seems you aren't supposed to do that. OOPS!

The RatShack stuff was 8.5MM in width, which is just shy of 5x wider than what you use.
Being not much larger than most recommended solder sizes. Maybe 2x as wide.
Wouldn't you just go through the smaller stuff 5x faster, more feeding, more cutting, more frustration?
Please do tell, I desire to learn.

I have tried finding a video and searching the forums, but not much luck.

pft, Iv'e slopped solder all over myself countless times (have a few scars from that too xD)!

Actually, I just realized that it's been months since I last burned myself on the soldering iron, getting better at it!

The only thing I don't like about desoldering braid is that sometimes the braid lets go from the solder all of a sudden, and it flings hot solder in the air.

Always wear glasses/safety-glasses when soldering! Its a MUST!

Mine is a Weller W60-P that I inherited from an Estate (Long story). The tips weren't too bad ($4.70 a pop from newark). The iron't temp is regulated by a magnet (curie point) at the end of the tip. My two tip sizes are:

1.57mm Chisel- it runs at 700C

3.18mm Chisel- it runs at 800C

I haven't had the iron that long (I've had it 10 months but usable for only 4) but it so far the tips have been been doing great, other than the usual color changes to the tip's non-soldered body there have been no signs of wear.

Both tips can do the braid OK, the larger and hotter one running a lot better for obvious reasons.

radioshack braid is unfluxed garbage. Complete ripoff.

.75 works well for me... no heat loss issues... then again, I have a 60W iron.

Capacitor Diarrhea - Nichicon PL Series
    by DrewPhillips
Hello All, I have on the bench a couple of PSU's which have some failed Nichicon PL series caps. They didn't "puke" their guts through the top, but instead "diarrhea'ed" corrosive brown electrolyte through the bottom, down the legs and onto the board. On one cap, the electrolyte rotted the cap right off the board leaving 2 little stubs, and also corroded a trace on the foil side.

The PSU's are Power-One MAP series and are ringing-choke topology. The semiconductors have date codes in 1993. The PSU's were used in a commercial application, fan-cooled. They had failed...

    Mid/late 80's Nichicon Yellow Caps
    by nick3092
I recently acquired a set of Bose Roomate speakers from the mid to late 80's. Basically the right speaker cabinet is completely passive, and the left one has the power transformer and amplifier circuit in it. Out of curiosity, I opened it up to see what the circuit looked like. Looks like they used all Nichicon VX (2x 4700uF/16v for smoothing off the bridge rectifier), a couple random Nichicon SE series sprinkled on the board, and what really caught my eye - 2 yellow sleeved Nichicon caps (both 1uF/50v with no real series marking. Below are pictures of the caps. The only thing not shown in these...

Is there datasheet for nichicon LXJ series?
    by chth96
I want to calculate capacitor ESR referring to below guide.

    https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633

    I must find out dissipation factor(Tan(δ)) for nichicon lxj series(6.3v 1500uf,25v 1000uf ,10v 2200uf)
I finally found out datasheet which has all series of nichicon capacitor. But unfortunately, It removed old nichicon capacitor.
Is there anyone who still has old nichicon datasheet which has information of LXJ series?

A few days ago,I destroyed one of my japanese retro game console by pluging it to 220v outlet.
    https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...e-been-blew-up

and I finally fixed this retro game console by soldering varistor and glass fuse.

But I noticed that When I measure voltage of PSU's 5pin connector, it is 8.80-9.07v, 5.13v,3.40-3.48v,GND,GND instead of its rated voltage of 9v 5v 3v GND GND.
    I have spare console...

EV dsp, replace the nippons lxz with nichicon fw ?
    by spiros.p
Hi guys.I have two EV dsp processors and before two years i do full recap to both. The units have before recup thousands hours running. On output input coupling caps (16 pieces) i solder nippon lxz series 100mf 63v (this time i don't have other stock) i know is low esr caps.Last week have found and order nichicon fw standard audio series. Is a good reason to replace the nippons lxz with nichicon fw ? The units get better sound? Or get worse? Thanks for any advice.
