    Capacitors for the SMPS enviornment?

Are all the series capacitors listed in the,
“What capacitors should I use”, thread acceptable for the SMPS, or a switching environment?
Or are there any you should not use?

Depends what part of the SMPS you are referring to.

Smoothing part of the SMPS should be low ESR, high capacitance.

Primary side/PFC circuit's big cap should be high voltage, have the proper ripple current, and have as much capacitance as possible.

I would also add it depends on the original capacitors too.

If you are replacing capacitors in a PSU then usually it's sensible to get ones which match the originals, but with a better quality brand.

As a general rule, the replacements should have the same ESR or lower and Same Riple current rating or higher. If you change ESR too much you may cause problems in the circuit.

For that you need to look at the datasheets of the original capacitors and the new ones.

I don't think I asked the question correctly .This is the thread I was talking about https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2280
Nichcion PW is of lower quality than HZ. Say for example could the PW series be used for a start up cap without causing problems down the road?
Or some of the other brands series that are on the left side of the list, Left being poorer quality and the better quality being towards the right?

After updating motherboard capacitors, what to do next (Asrock K7VT2, SOLTEK SL-75FRN2L)
            by dragon3x
Hi, I have some 32 bits computer motherboards that need repair, as they fail to
            power on.

            Here are some examples :

(N.B. "capacitors" indicated here are electrolytic capacitors located in the onboard
            switching supply area).
            (N.B. #2 : I could not find a 3300 microF aluminum-polymer with a higher voltage
            than 6.3 V.)

1 - Motherboard #1 : this is an Asrock K7VT2 (socket A) that still works well. To put it on test
            I replaced capacitors with aluminum-polymer.
            3300 microF/6.3 V. x 4 replaced by 3300 microF/6.3 V. (KYOCERA...

AA and AAA battery charger capacitors?
            by slybunda
hey all, iv got my favourite battery charger here which iv had for many years probably 15 years now or maybe even more. it still works good but thought id open it up to clean the dust out of it, lots of dust inside but now its clean and noticed 4 capacitors inside it and wondered if i should replace them.
            it has inside:
            2 x 47uf 16v caps 105c branded as Su'scon (lol sounds sus to me)
            2 x 470uf 16v LZ105c branded as G.Luxon

not heard of these brands are they any good?

iv attached photos of the charger and the board inside for an idea on the type of...

Panasonic switching power supply daughter board has two 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors which I do not keep in stock
            by sam_sam_sam
I did not have any 27uf @ 50 volt capacitors but one nice thing is that it has enough room for two capacitors in parallel a 22uf and a 4.7uf @ 50 volts 22 plus 4.7 equals 26.7uf which so very close to 27uf I will show some pictures of it sometime tomorrow

This is one of the shit est boards I seen in a very long time and it was the daughter board the traces just lifting off the board I had to use the capacitor leads to repair the the traces and the main board is not any better because I had to repair several traces for the daughter board to the main board

            After all of...

Onkyo DX-V500 Laser Disc Player - weird SMPS fault
            by dkneyle
This relic from a technology path that came to a dead end (but still has historical interest) was brought in with a dead SMPS, which is based around a MK1210 device. I got it going after a battle. It seems to have a strange design - if it's not getting feedback that the secondary is OK it cause the big FET to go into full conduction and overloads resulting in a blown fuse at best or something worse! I'm using a Dim Bulb Tester (70W/230V) which thankfully has saved the day a number of times whilst repairing.

Now, it loads a CD OK. The motor voltage output (which is built onto the SMPS...

Hi, Can we use SMPS Bench Power Supply for Laptop troubleshooting?
            by shamsudeen
Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....
