    EPoX EP-8K9AI...

I just found this site, and I'm fairly pi$$ed these motherboards are still out there with these faulty capacitors.

A few years ago I had an MSI mobo stop working all of a sudden and I chucked the board out (I'm not skilled at electronics or soldering). I thought I'd wrecked the board using a can of compressed air but now I know better...

As the title of this thread mentions, I had an EPoX EP-8K9AI board which I used in my gf's computer after upgrading to a P4 mobo. The EPoX has a few capacitors with the same brown corrosion/leakage on the tops as the MSI board had.

I've taken note of the this, but I'm not sure how long the mobo has before problems start affecting performance - I'm hoping at least six more months.

It's a real worry and significantly lessens my confidence in future motherboard purchases...

its a good idea to take the board out of service and recap it once you see leaking and bulging. once it gets worse and fails to post it may require more troubleshooting than just recapping or may damage other components on the board or in your system.

I agree with willawake, the board should be removed for service until it is recapped, or it will get worse.

Thanks. Until we can afford to replace the mobo, though, it'll have to stay in operation :/

Ah, well I kinda liked the board when I had it - a good stable thing until the caps started leaking...

The only thing I didn't like was the huge copper flower heatsink (Zalman) and fan which made it a pain to get in the case and change cards, etc.

Here's a photo of the badcaps on the EPoX board - as you can see it's not a pretty picture:
