Sanyo caps - one fake - one mystery

So I opened ip my caps box and took a few measurements on some caps I bought, before I got wiser.

    There are 16v 1000uf 10mm, 16v 1000uf 8mm, 6.3v 1500uf (real & used), and 16v 2200uf.

The 16v 1000 10mm have no series identifier. Their ESR is .03, their capacitance is 1050. They are consistent from cap to cap. They have an elaborate bung with three projections. Their colour matches that of the used ones I have taken off motherboards. I think these are real.

The 16v 1000uf 8mm are .015 ESR, capacitance 980, consistent for the lot. Series is WG.

The 6.3v 1500s came off an Asus TUSLC-2 I recapped. I measure their ESR at .02 and their capacitance ar 2100 (yes). They are WX series.

The 16v 2200uf are a bit of a muddier green than the others. Their is a "wave" in the series lettering. ESR is .02 but the capcitance is 1550(!) and there are variances among
them. I believe these are fake.

All have the "K" on the top. Pictures were blurry so I did not post.

Do you see more fakes than the 2200s?

Mystery 80s Sanyo cap - perhaps polymer?
    by cj_reha
Hey all I've been working on a 1984 Sanyo 27" color TV which had a smattering of bad caps in the video switching circuit. I found this oddball little 1uF 25V cap which looks to me like an early polymer, but I can't find concrete info proving it. I know Sanyo was a big player in early polymer cap development and this is the time period where they were just getting on the market, so I'm wondering if anyone has crusty old datasheets that could help identify it and determine if my suspicions are right? It has the same epoxy end seal and font/formatting as some old stock Os-Cons I've got laying...

Replacing Fake Sanyo's in a SMPS
    by jayjr1105
I have a cheap chinese T12 soldering station that I really like and use a lot. It has (clearly) fake Sanyo WG caps (1000uf 35v) on the secondary side that I'd like to replace with authentic caps. What should I use?

They are 10mm width but could probably squeeze in 12mm caps and they are super short for a 1000uf 35v cap but I could probably fit 30mm max height.

It also has an unpopulated spot so I assume 3 good ones can make up for two. I have some KZE 35v 680uf. Even with three would I be okay on capacitance?...

Calculating ESR from tan delta -- tan delta's dependence on capacitance
    by Junkrepair
I'm finally recapping my Soyo K7VX6 motherboard (aka KT600 Dragon Ultra) and replacing Sacon SZ-series caps. The Sacon SZ datasheet provides a spec for tan delta, but not for ESR, while the candidate replacement caps are specified in terms of ESR.

I found this nice little description of the conversion:

    Calculating capacitor ESR from Tan(delta)
    https://forum.digikey.com/t/calculat...-from-tan/2633

It mentions that a general spec for tan delta has to be adjusted for the specific capacitance before plugging tan delta into the formula...

    MSI K7T266 Pro (Ver. 1.0)
    by ssl6
    Hey Everyone,

Long time lurker, but I think this is my first time posting.

Just looking for some assistance on identifying some suitable replacement capacitors for an MSI K7T266 Pro (Ver. 1.0). I just got my hands on two of them actually, both working but one has some visibly bulging capacitors and the other has a few that I can't tell for sure if they're bulging because it's faint at best if they are.

I'll be honest I don't fully understand much on capacitor spec sheets beyond voltage and capacitance but I can solder like nobodies business so I've...

Dell Optiplex GX260 - Advice Needed for Polymodding Motherboard
    by SwedishDiesel
    Howdy folks,

I have an Optiplex GX260 that blew a couple of those troublesome Nichicon HM series (ultra low ESR) electrolytic capacitors. Because said caps are obsolete, they are pretty much impossible to find on the market; I did find a listing for some but I believe they are counterfeit. I feel the easiest thing to do would be to replace all the blown caps with polymer ones. I am by no means an expert in electronics, and I've found a fair bit of conflicting information, so any guidance or confirmation would be greatly appreciated. While from a practical standpoint it's not worth...
