Re: Recapping Successes & Failures
Just completely recapped another Asus TR-DLS Dual Tualatin board.
These boards have heavy ground planes and recapping is a slow process. This one took me 3 hours!
The result was outstanding. CPU1 had been running at 66C!!
After recap that temp was reduced to 49C!
The thick heat spreaders on the Tualatin CPUs means hunting around for a heatsink and clip that is usable. So the heatsink on CPU1 is a bit small, but still a decrease of 17C from recapping is amazing.
Board is now very quick!Comment

Re: Recapping Successes & Failures
Ive succesfully recapped a DFI NFII Ultra-AL and a Biostar P4M900-M4. I also attempted a recap of a ECS K7S5A, but failed because my new temperature controlled soldering iron came with worthless needle point tips. I could not get enough heat and killed a couple pads trying to get it to work. In the end, I took the tip off the iron and ground it down to a nice fat tip. Did the rest of the ECS as practice and it was so quick and easy with the tip like that. Did the Biostar after that with the modded tip with no issues other than it has to be reground often as the acids and heat eat the copper core so the tip ends up in a u shape.Comment

Re: Recapping Failure Revisited - It Lives!
I picked up one of my earlier recap failures, an Abit KT7A RAID that I had labelled "No Power - No POST".
It's been gathering dust (literally) in my basement for the past year.
Put a 900 Athlon on it, heatsink and RAM, CMOS battery, and probed the Panel pins with my screwdriver.
The thing started up!! I quickly shut down and attached a speaker and it posted!!
Stuck it in a case, hooked up a monitor and got into the BIOS.
Put Linux Mint CD in the Drive, went on the Internet.
Wahoo! Nothing like turning failure into success. I'm thinking this should be able to support most of the "C" series 133/266 FSB Athlons, though the SDRAM will slow it down a bit.Comment

Emachines L22YCET 22" LCD monitor
I am new to the forum so I hope I have doing this right..
I have a emachines L22YCET monitor and it will power on, the screen will show a quick pop up stating "No Sync" and then go blank. The monitor also fried a cpu in one of my desktop computers but I did not know that had happened at that point in time so I connected the monitor to another desktop computer thinking that maybe the reason the monitor was not working or displaying anything was because of a graphics issue in the 1st computer it was connected to so... I connected the monitor to another desktop computer and it fried the cpu on the motherboard in that computer as well..
I replaced both cpu's in each desktop computer and was able to connect a different monitor to them and both computers work fine so... for some reason when I connect my emachines monitor to a computer it will fry the cpu in that computer.
I removed the back from the monitor and can see the two circuit boards and from what little info I can find on the net, one circuit board is the power supply and the other is the video board.
Neither of those boards seem to have any bulging capacitors nor can I find any thing that looks burnt or bad however, that is only from a visual examination as I cannot find any diagram anywhere to direct me on how to check for voltages or electrical values etc..
Has anyone any experience with this same issue and if so, will you please help me out and give me some insight as to what I should do.
In my thinking I feel like maybe the video board may be shorted but of course I am not certain of that.
Also, does anyone know of a website that might have parts that can be purchased or technical support for this monitor? I have searched emachines and because the monitor is not under warranty, they have nothing and I cannot find anything at Dell either. Thank you.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

by proxneoDear reader
I am performing a repair on a Sony ICF-SW55, which includes recapping (some) of the SMD capacitors on the mainboard. I am looking for verification of their values. At the moment, I'm 95% sure I've got the right values, but it is hard to find some official, credible or multiple independant sources on this.
At the moment, I have selected replacements based on the following list of values:
3 x 470uF 10VDC
3 x 4.7uF 35VDC
4 x 47uF 50VDC
8 x 22uF 6.3 VDC
1 x 220uF 6.3VDC
5 x 100uF 6.3VDC

by valvashonYesterday I successfully repaired a Middle Atlantic UPS2200R-IP that had inadvertently been used as a surge suppressor at our transmitter site. It has already been replaced with an updated one but it's coming home with me now instead of being e-cycled. To be specific, this is the MA model that has the blue backlit display and has been discontinued, although this design may have been used in many UPS units including the smaller Middle Atlantic ones in this series.
Here's what happened: We experienced a brownout/surge at the site, which damaged the UPS and took our broadcasting... -

My issue isn't massive, but I'd like to get this solved since I'm trying to fix a friend's laptop.
A botched BIOS update by Lenovo bricked this laptop, so I used my BIOS programmer to reflash the BIOS on it and saved it from an early demise. All is good now, but the BIOS reports the S/N, MTM and UUID... -

Hey guys, I'm repairing a Denon AVR X6400h for my brother. It quit powering on after a power outage. It acted like this last time there was an outage, but after letting it sit overnight it started working again for a few years. This time letting it sit did not bring it back.
