    Korea Chemi-con

I recently got a hold of a H/K AVR 7000, currently doing a close inspection of components. It uses an array of cap brands: Yec, ELNA and Korea Chemi-Con. There's evident heat effects; metal discoloration, cold/broken solder joints....and some swollen caps:

For certain I'm replacing these units, but interesting the ESR readings are excellent and the capacitance is at spec value.

Never seen such stressed caps that still measure as OK.

are they really bulged though or is it just the plastic cap?

      Re: Korea Chemi-con

To me the top plastic cap is bulged because of what has occurred within the capacitor.
I've never seen a "normal" cap with this domed lid, but then I never heard of "Korea Chemi-con".

Odd thing too is when I lay these on their sides they do not roll....but find their center on the heavier side. So something is not good internally.

These were on a PCB that was at the bottom of a 3 stack of boards and for certain exposed to high heat. Needless they are being replaced.

Looks like they got pretty hot, wow. Never seen these before.

To me the top plastic cap is bulged because of what has occurred within the capacitor.
When you press down on the top plastic domes, do they give way easily or does it not want to move? Better yet: pictures without the plastic

The plastic domes do not move. These are firm.

I guess I will do an autopsy and provide pics.

For anyone wondering, Korea Chemi-Con is a subsidiary of Nippon Cheni-Con that makes/made capacitors in Korea. Some of these capacitors were manufactured by Samyoung.

So after autopsy; the verdict: this is (was) a good cap as far as I can tell.

Removal of the plastic sleeve and top:

              Internal views of cap:

ESR is still reading "Good cap with LO ESR" and capacitance value looks OK for 4700uF:

              Thanks for watching.

The reply to your question: not bulged. Just the way the plastic cap was constructed.
                A learned lesson for me.

Yeah for large caps, it's common to see plastic covers and sometimes look bloated. Most PSU primaries will have these

I've seen older Samyoung capacitors having the same shield of Chemi-Con.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Are there any datasheets available for Elna RJG capacitors?
                      by Ady2017
I have a 2007-era Panasonic VHS combo that is full of of Elna RJG capacitors. I am trying to test the capacitors to diagnose the machine and then select replacement capacitors but I can not find any datasheets for them. I did find a Elna catalogue from 2007-2008 but there is no mention of this capacitor series. Where these specially made for Panasonic and so not made available to the public? Any ideas what to find out what the ESR values should be without the datasheets? They are all between 10V and 50V and 47uF and 1800uF. None are leaking or bulged but I know that they need to be tested to be...

Can I replace KME cap with Samxon GF cap?
                      by chth96
                      Hello.
I have 29inch LG CRT TV,And Yesterday,Whenever I connect AC power cord to power outlet without switch on, I heard a sound like white noise, And When I switched on this CRT TV, It sometime displayed correctly But usually It won't last more than 20 minute and The screen begin to dark and It finally did not display at all for hours..
Today,I dismantled its plastic case and discharged the biggest capacitor(400wv 470uf) which still holds 250 voltage, and I finally detached PCB from cathode-ray tube.
I measured ESR value of most of caps in PCB with MESR-100 and I found that KME(25v...
