Chang are the real guys, they aren't great but (if not fake) they won't blow up at the rated voltage. Yes, there are fake Chang capacitors. If you get them from eBay, they're probably fake.
Thank you to the guys at HEGE supporting Badcaps [ HEGE ] [ HEGE DEX Chart ]

Gemcon capacitors don't put the series code on the sleeve....

Sorry, don't buy from eBay.
Buy from DigiKey e.g https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/rubycon/35YXJ2200M16X25/3134252
Or Mouser

Low ESR shouldn't hurt. I would stick with the same capacitance, same or higher voltage, and at least 105°C. I would definitely recommend using name brand capacitors (Elna, Nippon Chemi-Con/United Chemi-Con, Nichicon, Panasonic, Rubycon, or Würth Elektronik capacitors). Those caps from Amazon could be over-rated on the sleeving, especially if they're smaller, and they probably only last 1000 hours at 85°C, whereas any 105°C capacitor would last at least twice as long in the same situation....

They are just general purpose capacitors.

Just a note -- the reason many of these companies were "renamed" are spin-offs and mergers. Here are some of the examples:
Motorola Semiconductor - Spun off into ON Semiconductor
Fairchild Semiconductor - Merged into ON Semiconductor
National Semiconductor - Merged into Texas Instruments
HP - Test Measurement Division spun off into Agilent - Agilent Test Measurement division spun off into Keysight
"On September 19, 2013, Agilent announced its decision to separate into two publicly traded companies: Agilent, a life...

Yageo ceramic caps have a good reputation, and I think their ceramic caps are pretty good quality. Their electrolytic caps aren't as good, comparable to Teapo.

Re: Elite capacitors?
Elite capacitors are not good quality IMO. They are made by a company called Chinaan (website is https://www.chinsan.com/welcome/ ).
Can you flip the capacitors over and look for a series name?Re: Elite capacitors?

...a series name?Re: Elite capacitors?

Re: Artist seeking to tinker with electronics safely
If the VCRs have been unplugged for a while, you should be fine. However, it's always a good idea to take a look at the voltage rating of the capacitors. For example, 50V=safe, 400v=stay away. You can use gloves to avoid touching both pins of the 400V capacitors. If you want to check how charged the capacitors are, put your multimeter on 500V DC (the V with one straight line and one dotted line) and put the probes on both sides of the capacitor (being careful not to touch the metal parts of the probe or to touch one probe to both...
