Hey this is hammertime, I'm in the DC area...I'm an ME who just started a new job with a government contractor, which deals with a lot of electronics. I'm also working on a master's in Applied Physics, which means I get a lot of exposure to EE stuff I'm not super familiar with, so I'm trying to learn all I can.

Sup. Novice electronics fixer upper. Self-taught. Started out when my rear wheel speed sensor on my 4x4 truck went bad. The part cost for a 2x4 truck was $20. For a 4x4 truck the price was $80. I thought "What in the hell is in there that's worth $60?" Turns out the difference was a single capacitor. I researched and learned for days. Then I found a replacement on an old power supply board. I soldered that sucker in the sensor and WHAMMO, the light on the dash went off. I was hooked.

Just moved to Panama City, FL from Anchorage, AK to run an avionics repair shop. We not only repair components, we also engineer and reverse engineer products. I haven't ever performed component level maintenance in my career, only having done it on personal projects and often unsuccessfully.
Now that I run this shop, I'm working on this type of stuff every day. Often I've had no idea, so I browsed the interwebs and nearly always end up on this forum. Great info. Hopefully I can start contributing instead of just taking and obsorbing.

I find I'm doing the same stuff. It's not that I can afford the other part, and he'll it's not financially worth it to troubleshoot and repair it myself, but damn if it ain't fun!

                  Hello,

I am in my late-20s, last decade highly burried under PCs -HW, SW, but that is no longer my motivation. Always wanted to be a administrator and I am now IT Manager for more that 7 years so it has became a bit boring.

Anyway electronics and electricity is now my number one hobby... photovoltaics, off grid, on grid systems, DC-DC, AC-DC converters, caps, you name it Im learning it, got lots of FLUKE tools and one osciloscope I need to master

Made this account because of fucked up ENERMAX EMG500AWT which looked nice when new but now I think its a big fail and I only buy SEASONIC for my PCs now.

                  Cheers from EU

                        Hi all,

New member here from Massachusetts, USA. I've been looking over the forums for the last day or so since my LG Plasma picture went black and I'm impressed with the knowledgeable folks here! However, I haven't seemed to be able to track down the exact issue that I'm having.

Info about me: I'm a software developer but not as comfortable in the TV electrical world as I am with computer hardware.

I look forward to joining this community!

Peta, ofcourse some advertising would always be helpful to making this a success.... This forum has existed since October 6th 2003, online the first time at about 9:00PM CST. Being a couple days old, atleast there's traffic...

I don't know if this forum will be a huge success or not, I created it out of requests from viewers, so we'll see how many actually join... If it takes off, I'll be tickled pink!! If it flops, I'll simply remove it.

                                    A little about me?!?

HMMM I'll give a little info... I've been in the electronics field since 1991, with experience ranging from TV/VCR repair all the way to industrial electronics for a very large and well known manufacturer. I started in computers in 1994, just for a change and something I thought would be more challenging.... First of all, in the computer field, I AM NOT a number cruncher (programmer) YUK!!!!! I'm a hardware/network guy... I can install any OS, repair and make it work, but sitting and typing code is more boring than watching flies mate!! So I stick to hardware!! I get the 'thrill' from coming up with cures for problems, creative and USEFUL mods (this DOES NOT include neon lights and corny batman windows in my cases)...

Before the VP6 was around, Abit's poster child was the BP6, dual celeron board... Being one of the pioneers to run dual Coppermines in my BP6 was quite a thrill... Then came the VP6, and the dreaded crap cap problem... Thus was born PROJECT:VP6, which is over a year old... It can be viewed at www.kabalsrealm.com/systems/projects/vp6/. That single article ultimately led to badcaps.net and this forum... I was shocked at the publicity it drew...

                                    A little inside info?!?
Well, age?! I'll say late 20's and that's close enough... I enjoy dealing with the computers, all of this is just a hobby these days, so if it did flop, it's no loss... I'm also a car nut... (300ZX!!!)... I also enjoy flying immencely, although, no I don't own an airplane... YET!!! Maybe if I sell off all this computer junk, I could afford one... HEH I own 3 domain names, and host sites for a few friends on this array... Of course they pay me nothing... HMMM Ohh well... Money isn't all... That's about all I think needs to be revealed... If there's something you really need to know about me, ask... The answer all depends on the question you asked...

                                    Anyhow,
Peta, and everyone else that has joined, Welcome to the forums!! Bring some friends with ya!!
Hello, TopCat. I've made a "Request Repair Service" on https://www.badcaps.net/index.php?pageid=repair_details but I've have not had a reply. I an computer hardware and software literate but to replace caps on a LCD monitor is delicate work which I don't want to risk. I understand it is not really that hard but I don't do it every day. Can you tell me why I have not received a reply? I see there a site construction messages for BadCaps.

Hi, I'm a new guy here. I am a construction/maintenance Electrician at a chem plant in Dirty Jerzy. I have had some success in minor TV repair as a hobby, but haven't been tinkering in a while, that is until my 55" TV DFO'd on me (DFO=ems term-done fell out). I hope to be able to get help with the repair and I will post in the appropriate forum when I'm able. I'm also a volunteer Firefighter/EMT, I play roller hockey, and coach my 2 daughters' U18 soccer team. Thanks for being here to help me out!!
