They'll just auto-bill the credit card associated with your Microsoft account...

This was one of the most unlikely (?) places where a free Windows 10 upgrade notification appeared:

    Pfft, Who needs packaging?

I kinda wonder about if someone were to write modern hardware drivers for older Windows systems, what would their boot times be?

Newer Windows systems are so bloated up. I've disabled alot of drivers for NetBT and stuff... which I believe should be userspace services, not kernel-mode drivers anyways.

I pretty much disabled over half of the system, and I'm running just fine! The desktop looks old because I disabled the Themes service, but hey! More GPU cycles for the games!

I only use Windows because I need it for games, btw.

I loved Win2k.....and like you said, if there were an x64 I'd still be using it. The only platform that got a 64 bit taste of win2k was the Itanium. I'd still be using XP....but I have to make a confession. I really took a liking to Aero. Vista's aero was meh....I didn't like it. W7's aero + classic shell = functional eye candy!!

If I could, I would EOL W10 and extend Windows 7 mainstream support AT LEAST 10 YEARS and extended support for another 10 years.

Sure: tell that to my Dell Precision 470 with 16GB RAM that can't upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1 due to lack of the PrefetchW instruction!

What a mess. I still use XP (for old games and some apps I just can't do without), but everything else is Debian Stable.

Well, they can't formally EoL an OS early...however, nothing really stops them from breaking things with "critical updates" and creating compatibility issues with optional updates. They can shove their newest OS up everyone's all they want, but they cant end the life on one early. Third party software makers are also th fuel to the fire, they continue to write software for MS OS's whether its still supported by MS or not..... MS is more inclined to strong-arm hardware manufacturers by ending driver support for existing hardware and bullying them into not creating drivers for previous OS's with new hardware.
