Samsung B2030HD IR Remote Receiver Dead, shorted micom?

    Hi,
I have this TV a small 20 inch that works perfectly except for the IR has stopped. I have confirmed that the remote control is fine and tried an alternative and even tried with IR blaster from phone. Remote 100% ok.

Tried installing latest firmware but no change.

TV won't respond to remote at all, not even to bring it out of standby. I have to use the touch sensitive front panel to operate, at which point TV is usable albeit with no remote.

Tried replacing the IR receiver diode/bulb on front panel and no change so put the old one back. After tracing the circuit a little I found that the SIGNAL line of the IR receiver board (and bulb) is always LOW (less than half a volt). I think i'm right in thinking that this line should be 3.3v all the time until you press a button on the remote. At least this is how it's always worked when i've played with IR on an Arduino!

Traced the line further onto mainboard and it goes into a WELTREND IC (microcontroller?). No bad SMD caps or open resistors. Seems like issue with WELTREND IC? Incidentally, the other lines on the IR receiver (GND and 3.3V) are present. I measured the SIGNAL line with Oscilloscope while pressing remote and could see a square wave IR code but extremely low voltage (like half a volt or less). So seems like the issue is with the voltage being pulled down on the signal from sub micom?

I'm not sure if doing a standard USB firmware update would also update the sub micom, maybe someone can confirm? If it does then perhaps the IC itself is bad because I initially thought it might be corrupted. I seem to recall having a Samsung one time that needed to have the sub micom chip reflashed to fix this kind of issue. Wondering if anyone has experienced this or even has a copy of the firmware for this IC? or any advice in general?

    Many thanks,
    James.

are you sure its a tv? that model number refers to a pc monitor.

      Two possibile causes:
      1) from ir pcb there is a protection diode shorted to ground on the line to the microc.
      2) Microc. software is damaged and ir input is in a high impedance state , must program a new software directly on the uart pins or through vga port using an rt809 programmer or whatever..

something simple that works sometimes, take batteries out of remote, push all the buttons several times, then try it, make sure batteries are new, remotes will act up if they are not, some are more finicky about battery power than others.

may be a bad cap on the ir board.

Re: Samsung B2030HD IR Remote Receiver Dead, shorted micom?

Signal line is still low even when IR board is removed so guessing its not the ir board itself?

Thinking more along the micom firmware but can't find any, hunted high and low. Maybe someone here has a copy?

Remote is 100% good, tried with phone IR blaster too and confirmed with camera.

                James.

wouldn't it be? board removed no signal going to mainboard.

Good question actually, i guess i should just see if its the remote board that should keep the line high or if thats done on the mainboard... i'll report back!

Re: Samsung B2030HD IR Remote Receiver Dead, shorted micom?

Tested all components on signal line on main board from connector to micom, nothing shorted and no low resistances. Injected 3.3v into front panel board on its own and measured signal line with oscilloscope, ir codes showing up perfectly when pressing remote. So dead micom IC or corrupted firmware? I guess nobody knows where I may be able to get a bin file for this by any chance?

                        Thanks for all the help,
                        James.

I have an rt809h which should be able to do it via vga port i think, but without a bin can't do anymore i guess. It does show VGA programming of sub micom possible through vga in samsung service manual.

have you access to ****************? read at least the dump of ic then analyse it with HxD, check if there are some blank areas (FF).. that are suspected..

Re: Samsung B2030HD IR Remote Receiver Dead, shorted micom?

UPDATE: I managed to locate a dead TV with similar board, same model number of main board but size of tv 2 inches different. Swapping the whole main didn't work as it gave me a black image, I guess because of the size difference. So...I swapped over the MICOM ic to mine and the TV started to respond to the remote again! However, when the TV cools down it stops. responding (like when the TV has been off for a while). Only way I can get the TV to respond from a cold turn on is to leave it on for 5mins or so and then try the remote again - at which point it works.

I guess i could try checking my soldering of the MICOM but pretty sure it was all fine.

                                    Any ideas?

First to do is to attach rt809 and suck dump from micom, just in case... then replace capacitors on the psb or even on main board if with psb fails..

Re: Samsung B2030HD IR Remote Receiver Dead, shorted micom?

I came to try and get a dump of the micom this morning with rt809h but the tv would not respond to remote at all. Only the front panel again. Oh no!

I managed to get a dump anyway, then checked the PSU and all caps test good with ESR meter and no bloating.

I tried flashing the dump back just to test the writing but after that the TV DEAD. So, I took out mainboard and powered it from 5v bench supply (incase the TV standby isn't stable) and flash again but with a correct dump i found online (finally!). This has brought the TV back to life again but still no response using the remote.

Maybe it's not the microm afterall... but all i know for sure is that as soon as i replaced the micom from another board the remote did work fine, but then starting being intermittent and now seemingly died again and in the same scenario.

It would be nice to see just a bit of response from the remote to know that it still can work but as yet it's not wanting to respond with it at all. I've left it to warm up again and see...

P.S. something else to note. When the TV was working with remote but starting to act up, i was finding that quite often the TV would turn on ok with the POWER button on remote, but no other buttons would operate it. I could often turn the tv off with the remote but then sometimes it wouldn't turn back on with the remote. Very odd and unpredictable.

                                          Hello everyone,
i made out of two broken Samsung Galaxy Tabpro S one that works partially.
The one Mainboard had a broken screen output but working hdmi (usb c adapter) output and the other didnt start at all.
I switch the bios chips and now the tablet starts but very very slow and it takes some trys to get it starting.
The problem is, that the micom Version doesn't match with the bios version, see picture.
How can i update the Micom Version? The Samsung bios update wont work.
With https://github.com/tavinus/SamsungBIOSTools i could extract the newest bios update...

DSE GE6878 possible TV receiver dying remote not working well

For this Dick Smith TV GE6878 (Thompson) I replaced the broken remote with a universal it kinda works though if its more than a few meters away sometimes the buttons register and sometimes they wont so I bought another remote from another brand and it has the same problem, I've had an old TV in the past that the sensor died completely and I replaced it to fix it could this be a similar problem? I tried looking for a service manual, spare parts for a receiver and a parts list but I couldnt find any info. can someone please help me to find the info online for a service manual or where I can buy...

hi i have a receiver that is destroyed from the overvoltage i guess
my question is has three wires u v w for driving a motor fan i found an other receiver wireless from aliexpresss with the same propertiew but for dc motor
the motor fan has not label
i have an other receiver operational
In your opinion can i measure the voltage at the output ?
what do you suggest me with a simple instrument multimeter or using someone instrument more specific ?
                                          thanks in advance...
