Wasn't sure what heading this could go under, but here goes. I have friend with a new plasma screen- Norcent PT4235. He buys direct from wholesale distributors so he doesn't have much in it. He's puzzled by what he says is a defect in it. When watching one day he noticed an anomaly in the picture. he describes it like a pebble hitting a pool of water and the ripples that spread outward from the center. His screen has ripples that move up the screen from a set point within the picture. He didn't say if the point of origin was the same or not, but it comes from the bottom up. He says it's not as noticeable on action images (lots of motion as in football games) as on more still ones? Anyone want to take a crack at this oddity?

Re: Plasma screen with picture anomaly
Well, I am not sure I can tell you that it is capacitors. Indeed, I would tend to think not. And it is tough to say without seeing it.
However regarding the horizontal wrinkles.
Pleasma screens are a bit different than normals CRT screens in that (like LCD's) they are without a refresh cycle on the screen. On a CRT, your scanning electron beam goes across one line at a time (the inspiration for this method was the plowing of a field, I kid you not) and when it finishes, it starts over again. With a plasma screen, you have a matrix of cells. When the gas is stripped of electrons by an electric current, you get other excitied electrols releasing UV light that is then floresced into R G and B. At the same time, the signal that is coming in, either via cable or via the airwaves is encoded in a way that assumes that the screen is still displayed in a field-plowing method. So my guess is that the circuitry is vertically and/or horizontally out of sync with the incoming signal. Does it have any sort of hsync or vsync adjustment features?
Just a wild guess though. And I could be way off base.Comment

by MgiffuneI have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started βfading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.
I ordered a supposedly βnew' Tcon board this time, and... -
by Ryan.manHello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!
My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.
This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen... -
by OllerenshawAbout 50% of time, on switching tv on, there is a jerky staticky picture over whole screen. After some seconds (variable, 5 to 20 seconds) picture suddenly becomes normal.
Nothing appears abnormal inside.
I'm not a service technician. Main questions: Any ideas as to problem? Worth taking to repair technician? My skills would allow replacing a board but nothing more complicated.
Photos and video attached.
Thanks for any ideas....11-01-2022, 11:55 AM -
Have a Samsung UN50NU7400 which shows a boot screen and a screen saver if left on long enough but no picture ?
Would a moving screen saver confirm that the panel is ok or it could still be a panel issue ? -
by AlicatHello,
Stopped by this site trying to fix my parents Panasonic Plasma TV.
Model number is TH-50PZ85U
Power comes on and the red power light stays on solid.
Did a few checks like hold the power button on for 60 seconds, hold the - Volume while holding the menu button, no luck, still@ blank grey screen as the screen lights up very vague.
I also hear a few clicks.
I also think my parents said there was a thunderstorm and the TV failed after that.
Section 6 in the service manual talks about power and no screen,...10-30-2024, 10:09 AM - Loading...
