Not all TVs can handle surround sound on a HDMI input

With a home theatre PC connected to a TV via HDMI, Windows reveals that the TV only supports stereo sound even though the TV has a HDMI ARC connection to an AV receiver which is powered on; I also had an issue that the AV receiver does not always retain the input setting for routing the HTPC video through to the TV in standby.
So I connected a second HDMI cable to the HTPC and set it to duplicate the video outputs, but I had random audio dropouts when playing content with surround sound being passed to the AV receiver (dropouts did not occur when I replayed the content where it dropped out) but I did not have this issue when only one video output on the HTPC is used - this could be a processing problem.
Then I hacked a HDMI angle adapator which can be easily disassembled with a CMOS 4016 quad bidirectional analog switch to disconnect the Display Data Channel (DDC - 2 lines)/Consumer Electronics Control (CEC)/Hot Plug Detect (HPD) lines on the HDMI connection (to tell the HTPC that a display is disconnected) which fixed this problem.
My first choice in quality Japanese electrolytics is Nippon Chemi-Con, which has been in business since 1931... the quality of electronics is dependent on the quality of the electrolytics.

Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB (Chassis SR) TV Repair Help - Distorted Subwoofer Sound and overall weird sound waveforms
    by LEECH666
    Good day ladies and gentleman!

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.

This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).

I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but...

Hitachi 42HDT52 Plasma TV - HDMI initially has no sound on Power-up
    by Howard_Woodard
Hi all. Up until 3 years ago I used component video as the connection between my Comcast cable box and this TV and never had any issues with it -- it always worked perfectly. Then I upgraded my cable service and the new box had only an HDMI connection. The Comcast remote controls both the cable box and the TV. About 50% of the time, when I would first turn the TV on I would get video but no sound. After trying new cables, a new cable box, and switching between the two HDMI ports had made no difference, I changed the video source to see if that made any difference. It did not but I did notice that...
