To access the 2nd level diagnostics, unplug power cord, short circuit to ground the test point named SDM on main board, then plug the cord, keep the short until after 1 - 2 minutes the status led tells you the error code.. if 5 long 3 short, no good..

          Hi Davi P,
I have just done the test and I get 5 slow blinks and 3 fast.So error 53.
          Seems very common.
Also that diode seemed to be good after all..I dont really understand now it is showing OL both directions.
Do I need to heat the chip with fingers crossed or is there an updated repair for this.?

someone claimed he resolved by a good reflow, but usually needs at least a reballing..

are you talking about D501, I thought you tested out of circuit and got the beep in both directions, that means a BAD diode, OL in both directions ALSO means a BAD diode, they are like the easiest component to check, meter in diode mode and check, very easy.

Hi yes,,I DID test out of circuit and 100% the diode beeped in both directions with a reading 003.4 on the meter.
I did this a few times to confirm.
Then a few days later I tested the diode location and got exactly the same reding..However...when I retested the diode prior to resoldering to the board to take othr voltages it then showed OL in both directions. I dont get it.I definetely tested it not once but maybe 10 times initially.

I understand what you are saying sonys however this doesnt seem to be the standard diode.

Don't focalise on that diode, your problem is the processor, 100%, very common problem

Tv is now workng after heating the fusion chip with 250 setting on hot air machine for 2 mins..
chip gets warm as no heatsink attached so I will now add another layer of copper to the heatsink and replace and test to see if stable. Geez this board has a lot of flex..No wonder this is a common issue.

                                Hi guys!
I searched for the term "dead short" in the forum but no specific thread came up however if I'm just blind and couldn't see the thread talking about this please forward me to that direction.
So my problem is I don't know how to find the source of a dead shorted voltage rail. Dead short = ~0 ohm resistance.
I have two VGAs (HD 4850 and HD 4870), both dead shorted to ground on the memory rail. I have the boardview file for the 4870 and the memory rail consists around ~7892346 capacitors...
I have a bench PSU and if I try to inject voltage the voltage...

Gigabyte GTX1080 - identifying a dead short on vmem
                                by Prott
                                Hey!
I have a problem with Gigabyte Aorus 1080. The card seems fine (expected resistance on vcore, pex, 5v, 1.8v, 12v and reset) except for a dead short on vmem (FBVDD). It's interesting failure mode, cause usually (in my experience) when memory fails it still retains a few ohms - this one is literally a dead short.

I removed the inductors and tried inject voltage (0.8 V at 6 A) which only seemed to warm up the cables to the card while the card itself didn't show any hotspots.

Is there any way to narrow down the search for a short? I would prefer not to remove...

Extreme High Current & Low Voltage Short Killer ??
                                by DynaxSC
                                Hi Folks

I'm looking for a extreme high current short killer solution for a reasonable cost.

I have an LGA1700 motherboard (ASUS PRIME Z790-P WiFi) where I exchanged the LGA socket already 3 times, and every time after the socket exchange I get a short of power supply lines VCORE (V variable) and VCCIN_AUX (1.8V).
After taking off the socket, the shorts dissappear again.
The soldermask on the socket is already partially demaged from the heat, so I have reconstructed the soldermask by manually painting the missing soldermask parts with a very small top of a...

                                Hi there,

I discovered this forum through a youtuber who teaches electronic repair. I've been trying to troubleshoot my dad's old PC which is a Gigabyte GA-H61M-USB3-B3 and will not power on. I discovered a dead short on the 3.3v rail at the ATX connector so I used a bench power supply to feed 3.3v into the ATX connector and sunk about 400mA into the board (I hope that's not too much!). I used a FLIR camera to identify the problem area:

The chip seems to be the following, an ITE IT8892E 1108-CXS which seems to be a PCI bridge?
