    esa plasma panel gassy

Hello fellas, I acquired a ESA (LG) dpd4294lv1 plasma tv mfd 2005
It came with an extra (Z) sustain board. Both boards load down PSU.
the (Z) sustain supplies half of the "potential" to the panel,What are the signs of air in the panel. The vacuum nipple is in tack. Should i try a 3rd (Z) sustain board . thanks

If I recall correctly, the troubleshooting directions for the panel suggest troubleshooting power supply problems by disconnecting the power cables to the X, Y, and Z modules in turn. If the power supply recovers when power is disconnected from a particular module, the next step is to replace the module.

In this situation, my approach would depend on the severity the board presents to the PSU. If the power supply fails to come up at all (massive overload), I would check the semiconductors in the Z-sus. If I found any shorted I would either replace the semiconductors or the Z-sus as appropriate.

If, on the other hand, only one of the power supply outputs would not reach full voltage, I would check the power supply itself first.

Thanks plainBill I bought this tv at an auction,i don't know any history of it (being banged around etc) With Vcc to the (z) sustain unplugged, Power supply fires up with sound, Have led's lit on the formatter board. Both (z) sustain modules load down the power supply and its cycles 2 times and shuts down. The (z) sustain board drives half the plasma panel... Can i disconnect the panel from the (z) sustain module and run it? What is the the output voltage ? Can it be ran into a dummy load ? Back in my day (crt days) when you had air in the tube. There was arcing in the neck from the focus and G1 grids Thanks again.

Actually, the Z-sustain board drives the entire plasma display. As do the Y-Sustain and the X-drivers. They just provide the drive to different elements of the display.

I don't have enough experience to know if a broken plasma would load down the Z-Sustain board. I DO have a few suggestions, however.

Wizard has extensive experience with plasma TVs. He may have explained the symptoms of a cracked panel.

Since the set was made by LG, go to scribd.com and search for LG plasma training manual. The translation is horrible, but you can learn a little about how they work. And what parts not to touch.

Search for the part number of the Z-sus. If it is one of those with a hybrid, they are notorious for shorting.

Thanks again plainbill, What I meant to say is The (z) sustain supplies half the potential to the plasma panel. I bought a pdf manual on ebay Very bad Chinese translation. Shows schematic of main PSU. Nothing nothing on the sustain boards, Says there is an (IPM) ic intelligent power module on the (z) sustain but no schematic or voltages. Thinking about about connecting the output of the (z) sustain to a neon tube back to cold ground . IF the set stays on I must have an gassy panel.I am kinda curious if I will get any glow out of the neon, It takes about 3-5 kv to lite neon.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
            by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

            Assuming...

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

Samsung Plasma TV Power Supply Issue
            by lp20th
I have a vintage 2008 Samsung 50” Plasma TV, Model code PN50A550S1FXZA with a power supply part number BN44-00222A. I repaired the power supply board several years ago finding a couple of cold solder joints on the back side of the board and it's worked great up until now. Recently a fried sound occurred with the smell of burnt electronics and the TV shut down. Trying to turn it back on yielded the typical relay clicking with no TV boot up. Upon investigation, removing feeds to the other boards within the TV it was found that disconnecting the logic board from the power supply allowed the...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

LG 49UJ6500 LCD panel lighter band that goes away
            by howardc64
49UJ6500 LCD panel has a lighter band on top when first powered on. Goes away (or gets much fainter) after TV on for a few min. After powered off for awhile and power back on, same band appears. If powered on immediately after powering off, no or much fainter band. Running the latest firmware.

Disassembled the TV and lifted the LCD panel during testing. Band is on the LCD panel (can see the band on the panel as I lift it slightly) Backlight is perfectly even at the top edge. Double checked LCD panel alignment in the frame and is perfect but since band moved with the panel, its on...
