    Viewsonic-Optiquest Q20wb

    I have replaced the domed capacitors but no joy. Have to leave case open with large fan blowing on it to stop the constant blinking off/on. With the cooling fan it works OK. What would be the next step to check?

      It is possible that the non-domed caps are also bad. Caps can be bad without being domed.

      Their ESR can be very high which leads to problems.

      If there were say 4 caps, all 1000uF 10V (same brand) and you replaced the 2 domed ones and left the other 2, there is a good chance the other 2 are bad, but not domed.

      Caps near lots of heat can "dry out" and be bad.

          Have you checked for bad solder joints? Sometimes heat will make them make/break connections which could cause your problem. You could also check to see which components are getting hot with a non-contact thermometer. Once you find the hot bits, trace back to their power source and inspect, or trace their 'load' if they are part of a power supply, for shorts or other defects.

                  When I assembled dreamcast I mistakenly fastened long bolt and It resulted in
                  cutting tiny trace.
                  This tiny trace(Total width of white coating is 5.5mm) is between R337,R343 and IC101 and it is covered with white coating in the below screenshot.


                  Firstly I tried to bridging tiny broken trace with my own eyes...But it is totally impossible..So a week ago, I ordered G1200 Digital Microscope and I magnified this tiny broken trace with it.

                  But It seems that It is really very tiny trace So I plan to order 0.1mm coper wire from aliexpress in order to bridging...

                  Hi all!

                  I'm trying to troubleshoot a Microsoft Surface Pro (5th gen) model 1796 that won't power on. Motherboard model is M1007506-015. My priority is retrieving data, but the SSD is integrated so it looks like if I can't repair it it'll need to go to a data recovery company. I've done a little basic board repair before, but nothing this advanced until now. So please forgive my ignorance in advance. šŸ˜…

                  I found the boardview for this laptop in the forums here, and am able to open it on my PC with FlexBV.

                  Xbox One S - 12V Rail Short - Q9F1 Keeps Blowing

                  Hello,

                  Have an Xbox One S here that has a short on the 12V power rail. There is no power, beep, or partial fan spin when connecting power cable.

                  After diagnosing with thermal camera, Q9F1 MOSFET (NTTFS4C50N) is getting hot. When I remove this MOSFET, the short on the 12V rail disappears.

                  I first replaced Q9F1 with one from a donor board and then partially reassembled the Xbox to test. When I plugged the power cord in, I got a partial fan spin and I thought I had fixed it, but unfortunately, the Xbox still did not power on. So I then disassembled the Xbox...

                  Dell XPS 8100 Motherboard VRMS keep blowing

                  I wanted to save this thing from E-waste ... I helped a neighbour with their Dell PC , it had a blown visably blown VRM causing a short on the 12V EPS ..

                  I replaced this VRM which fixed the short but, the high side VRM's keep blowing , seemingly the same two phases .. I replaced the low side mosfets on the respective blown phases . Though still the High side VRMS are blowing ..

                  After a few minutes one of the four phases will get extremely hot , then blow ..
