Philips VR 670B/39 - sdvice on repair needed

The Philips VR 670B/39 is a multistandard VCR - PAL/SECAM bought in France.

It has worked perfectly for many years. Recently the video output has failed.
When a tape is played, after some 20 sec, the tracking error message 'TRAC' is
displayed. The video output, when captured and replayed, is just a load of noise, which explains the error message.

The heads have been cleaned, but that made no difference; The sound output and mechanicals work as normal.

When I insert a write-protected casette and press the record button, a full
screen error message is displayed - which is what one would expect.

It seems that either the recording heads have failed, or the transmission from
the moving heads to the static part of the video chain.

    Any advice please.

Re: Philips VR 670B/39 - sdvice on repair needed

I have 3 Philips VCRs laying around here, all dead, I heard that they are notorious for failing.

But, just in case you might be lucky I paste some guidelines I wrote in another thread:

    1) Modem TV sets very aggressively block the signal when the image processor thinks it is too messed up and show no signal message. That way you are totally unaware of what is happening on the VHS and a lot happened that I couldn't know. So, please try to test VHS devices/tapes on CRT Tvs or LCD that are very forgiving of the video input they receive from SCART/RCA/S-VIDEO and allow a lot of snow and/or tracking errors.

    2) Unfortunately some of cassettes that are 20 or 30 or more years old are starting to deteriorate. Sometimes it is not visible if you open the cover and look at the tape, other times it is. These is also a chance that the magnetic material is fine but the tape is just demagnetized, due to poor storage near magnets, or moisture creeping in. In my case, I was very unlucky because I tested 4-5 VHS machines with a bad cassette that stressed the heads and made my Samsung LCD TV show no image after a couple of seconds. So please make sure you find a KNOWN Working tape first , then coduct any testing.

    3) Give some time to the heads. If you get to have a Known good VHS tape and try it on a device that has not worked since 2004, the video head will appear dead, you will get absolutely no image at first, then, 2-5 minutes later you will get some image but it will be too snowy, then after more minutes of playback it will be less snowy and after 30-45 minutes the image will get crystal clear (well for VHS standards). So, don't write off the VHS recorder too soon. This auto healing process happened on several VCRs that I tested.

Philips 70PUS7855/12 bad colors when applying the tape fix on teh T-con board
      by silikon77
      Hi!
Got an 70 inch Philips tv model 70pus7855/12 from scraps and I decidet to give it a go. I'm an enthusiast but no porfessional in the electronics.
Found some advices watching youtube nad came up with this:
It came with no picture, after diagnosing it I found out that the right side of the T.con board was faulty.
I taped down the clock signals and I got a picture but the left side of the panel has less pronounced colours. Only the right 3rd side of the panel has good colors.
      See attached picture.

I tried a few combinations to block individual clock...

Philips 32PFL5605H/12 issue with displayed colors
      by croupier36
Need help with this unit...looks like the colors are not displayed correctly....not an expert, but looks like something wrong with the GREEN...have attached the photo of the 'home menu' and the recorded video of the Demo video that's on the TV for viewing/testing.

Where should I look for faults? Everything else looks/works ok.

BTW...have upgraded to the latest FW/SW version, but nothing changed....

IBM LTO 7 Tape Drive - Dust Sensors??
      by RetroComputingGrotto
I have a Quantum SuperLoader robotic tape library that uses an IBM LTO 7 tape drive which is constantly complaining that it needs cleaning. If you insert a cleaning tape, it performs the clean and resets the cleaning counter to 0 hours. It should only require cleaning every 50 or so working hours but after as little as just 1 hours use it requests cleaning. We've purchased a new cleaning tape along with new LTO backup tapes but that has not resolved the problem.

I have taken the library apart and can see no noticeable signs of dust inside. I have removed the tape drive from the...

      Problem

This is an LG edge LED lit LCD Display. The LEDs are on the bottom edge of the display. There are 2 bars (left and right) Each bar has many LEDs and a 6 pin connector. Each pin drive several LEDs thus is the highest current flow / heat junction. The weak lead free solder gradually fails with thermal expansion/contraction cycling and increases resistance. PSU will compensate up to a point, then when the current is too high, PSU just shut down the backlight causing a dark display. I have even seen one which the connector just fell off as solder points became completely detached....

LG 75UN8570AUD panel issue fixed with tape.
      by triplefour
I've been seeing a lot of the new TVs (samsung and LG only i think) maybe 1-2 years old suffering from sudden panel death and have been over 50% successful bringing them at least most of the way back to functionality if not all the way, with the tape masking of the LVDS pins method.
add this one to the list. the issue was on the left side of the panel and i ended up blocking just 3 pins on the connector that joins the two panel boards that make up the left side of the panel (it has 4 boards total) i didnt get the picture back to 100% perfect. i spent hours fiddling with which pins to block...
